Are you talking about spots you see on the pictures? Are these spots you see in the same place on all the pictures? If you really want to see if your sensor is dirty pick a clear day with a great blue sky focus to infinity and then shift the lens to manual focus and the program to "P" take a pitch of the blue sky. Then down load this picture to the computer and open it up to 100% and look it over if there are spots then the sensor should be cleaned. Even if you take the lens off and look into the camera body you still can't see the sensor all you are looking at is the mirror inside the prism box. To clean the sensor you need to put the camera into "clean" mode which locks the mirror up. It may be possible you just have a dirty lens or UV filter.
As far as I can read in the manual there is not any error code r05 and r06. My guess is you are seeing that in the LCD on top of the camera. Turn to page 36 in the D80 manual there you is what you are after. The r05 and r06 are the number of shots remaining in the buffer.
Try setting the camera to M manual focus and manually focusing on the subject. Some combination of focus size and focus type may not focus unless the sensor sees a subject and is in focus. So if the sensor cannot see and know it is in focus it will not fire. If you subject is not moving then focusing in manual will ensure the subject is in focus and the camera can shoot.
Could this be the auto focus? Try this, put what you want to focus on in the center of the screen, in the [ ] part. Lightly press the shutter button and keep the pressure on. The camera will focus and then wait. If you now press the shutter button all the way down the camera will take the picture.
The r06 just means the camera can take 6 more pictures quickly before the picture buffer fills up. Unless you are using the fast drive mode this will not matter to you.
This is not an error, this is telling you how many more continuous shots you can take before the buffer fills up and you have to wait a while for it to empty. Take a few quick shots and you will see it go down. It means R(emaining) shots.
During shooting, or when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the number of images that can be stored in the memory buffer at current settings is shown on the exposure-count displays in the control panel and viewfinder. "r06" indicates that six images can fit in the camera's buffer, "r08" would indicate eight frames. Any other number could be displayed as well.
