I was told from a service managerat the chevy dealer, that the headlight bulb was suppose to last a lifetime. Why then is it costing me $120.00 to get it changed? I think this is just highway robbery since it is so difficult to change for the owner to change it. Has anyone else ever had to get the bulb changed?
As I also had the dealer tell me it would be $120 - $150 to change I looked into it further. If you will remove the screws from the protective cover under the fender (just a few you do not need to remove the full fender cover). You can access the bulb. You will need to turn the housing and remove the bulb. Be sure to not touch the bulb as oil from your fingers will make certain you will be changing the bulb in a short time. Also I would use the standard bulb as the brighter bulbs run hotter and burned out very fast (2-3 months). If you turn the wheel your access to the bulb is easier. It is tight but by changing the bulb yourself you are saving a lot of money.

Thanks Pierre!
Merci beaucoup!
Everything worked as mentionned. Be carefull with the plastic in the winter. Make sure to use a flat screw driver and get it close to the slider and not on the edge. I cracked one of the tongues. Those L shaped slots are under the plastic cover with the two big plastic plugs that you also remove with the flat screw driver

Actually there are two little black tabs on top of each headlight housing and you simply have to pull them up to release the whole headlamp.
Then follow the rest of emissionwiz's solution.

Pop the hood and locate the rubber piece that is behind the headlight. Remove the plastic screw that holds it in place and you can easily just bend down the rubber piece to gain access to the bulbs. The driver side is a little tighter to get into because it sits next to the windshield washer fluid container. The passenger is a lot easier but you do have to remove the air box which is very easy.

See note below for passenger side. Remove the dust cover on the back of
the head light assembly (black round rubber cover about 3" in diameter,
just pull it off), disconnect the plug on the bulb, turn the bulb
a 1/8 turn and pull it out. Then reverse the process for assembly.
***NOTE***If you are trying to replace one of the bulbs on the
passenger side, remove the air filter housing cover and displace the
filter for access to the dust covers on the back of the head light. 2
screws hold the air filter housing cover on, one directly behind it and
one on the side (drivers side of air filter housing).

Hi there,
Well first you can please follow the below steps -
1. Make sure the ignition key is in the off position and the headlight switch is off. Release the hood latch.
2. Open the hood and locate the top of the headlight assembly where you intend to change the headlight. If a plastic shroud is present, locate the center bolt and remove it with a ratchet and a socket. Lift the shroud out of the way to access the headlight assembly retaining brackets. Some later models may feature a snap-release shroud requiring no tools to remove.
3. Locate the brackets on the top rear of each side of the headlight assembly. Lift them all the way up to align the hole on the bottom of each bracket to the retaining tabs on the assembly.
4. Pull the assembly forward away from the Malibu, but be careful not to scratch the bumper. There are three guide pins that require unseating. The guide pins are what aim the headlights and it may take some wiggling to get the pins from their seats.
5. Support the assembly with one hand and then reach behind the unit with the other. The low beam bulb is on the outside, the high beam bulb is on the inside. You can also replace the parking light if desired. Locate the wire harness connection. Un-clip the wire harness from the back of the bulb socket. Remove the bulb by turning it counterclockwise 1/3 of a turn to align the release tabs of the ring and the assembly. Wiggle the bulb out of the assembly.
6. Place the latex gloves on your hands before opening the package of the replacement bulb. Oil in our skin can damage the glass bulbs of halogen headlights.
7. Carefully insert the new bulb into the ring and then align the tabs of the ring to the tabs of the headlight assembly. Push inward and then twist clockwise 1/3 of a turn to lock the bulb in place. Reattach the wire harness. Rest the headlight assembly inside its cavity and test the operation of the headlight before securing the headlight assembly in place. Be sure to turn the lights and ignition back off.
8. Align the three guide pins to their seats and push the assembly back into them gently until they snap into place. Replace the retaining brackets by pushing them downward to lock into place. Replace shroud, if applicable. Remove the tools and old bulb and close the hood. Post comments for further help or information......
Good Luck!!
