If the battery gets warm after being in the charger a while and still is not charged, then the battery is bad
if the battery stays cool in the charger then the charger may be bad
Chargers usually have a light code, I.E. on means charged, slow flashing means charging, and a quick blinking means bad battery
Some chargers have 3 lights and the code should be imprinted on the charger.
hope this was helpful, cb

Why wont my black and decker 7.2 lithium drill take a charge ?

Did you check if the battery holds the charge? Also, you should verify the charger's output with a voltimeter.

My Black and Decker Drill and Hand Saw have brand new battery pack and brand new charger to BE SURE battery is fully charged but still don't work

it is probably the brushes on the motors are wore out or stuck and not making contact. pretty much junk unless you feel confident enough to attempt repair.

How do you know when a black and decker battery's life is over

Normally when it will no longer hold a charge, that is, no matter how long you charge it, the battery goes flat very quickly. This happens sooner with Ni-Cad batteries than with Li-Ion.

Will 18 volt black & decker charger over charge battery

Hello Howard, There are two different kind of cordless drill chargers. One is a smart charger that will not overcharge your battery. It usually has a stand alone base that the battery plugs into and sometimes may have a red and/or a green light to let you know it is charged. This charger will stop charging when the battery is fully charged after an hour or less. The other one is a dumb charger that can overcharge your battery if left on the charger too long. This charger usually has a square or rectangular transformer that plugs directly into your wall receptacle. This charger may take up to eight hours to fully charge your battery and will continue to charge until you unplug it.

I have a black & decker pivot plus that will not charge. How do I know if I need a battery or if I need a charger?

Batteries are only good for about a year, if they are older than that, take them back to the store and see if they are guaranteed at all, (all Ryobi tools and batteries have a date code on them, and they are all guaranteed for 2 years, a little plug for Ryobi,) that is all I buy now days, they work great. So, to check your charger, you will need a volt meter set on 12 or 20 v dc, and see if the charger is putting out, if not, then, the cost of a new ryobi might be the same as the fix for the black and decker. That is if you use the thing, we use our cordless tools every day and charge them every night, hope this helps.

How do I know if my battery is bad or if my charger is bad? The red light on my charger no longer lights up when I plug it in. This is for my Black & Decker Firestorm 12volt drill. Thanks

With a multimeter set it to 12 volt dc and place the leads on the two parts that would be touching the battery. If you see voltage then it is a bad battery.
