The dryer doesn't stop running. It just continues to cycle through the off position and starts going again. Opening and closing the door does not reset it. Normally need to push the start button to start it up again but it runs whenever the door is shut (unless it is in the Off position). We have to leave the door open to keep it from running. Thought it was the timer and just spent almost $80 for the part but that wasn't the problem and now I'm stuck with it. My guess it is either the push start switch or the door switch but I'm looking for advice before I start replacing any other parts. Thanks.
The dryer wont stop running only when open door will it start a fire?
I think it is a stuck start button. If you open the door, the dryer will shut off. Close the door and the dryer will begin to run again....try this and let me know. If this is correct, replace the start button assembly. Good Luck, Eric Campoion
The timer itself is defective, its not stopping the motor internal the timer when it hits the off poition, Replace the timer and wala!

The push-to-start switch is the easiest and cheapest to replace. You can check it by starting the machine then, unplug it, remove one of the wires from the switch, then plug dryer back up. Dryer should not start. If your model has an even heat board and two relays under the console, your problem could be with them if switch is not bad. Reply back if you need to know how to check them.

Thanks for your feedback but, as I stated in the problem description, I already replaced the timer. That did not fix the problem. That's why I'm guessing it might be the push start switch or the door switch but I'm not sure. Any other replies would be appreciated.
I am having the exact same problem any solutions would be helpful!
I'm having the exact same problem, was anyone able to find a solution?
I am having the same problem. The Kenmore dryer will go from timed dry cycle to air dry etc. The only way to stop it is leave door open or unplug. Any solutions?
New MayTag Dryer (10 days) won't stop running, Does dry clother but timer never moves??? Repair man couldn't find anything wrong?????
my Kenmore dryer wont turn off. the knob will not turn to off position. i cleaned the knob and wd40 the movable device and also cleaned out the lint form the hose. it worked until i put clothes in it and will spin around but wont dry the clothes. the repair shop said $69 just to come over and one dollar each minute not including parts.
ME TOO!
this happened once before and then it fixed itself ...but not now--it keeps on cycling through all the settings, so if it gets down to 0 minutes on the timed setting, it goes automatically to the dry setting.
I have the same problem - wont stop, just cycles threw all the setting until we open the door to stop it. It Does dry and tumble, just keeps going. One of the other folks said they replaced the TIMER and it didnt fix the problem....So what is it ? Sensor, Dial, Timer...????? Hate to pay for a Sevice call it its dirty Pods or something ?
