SOURCE: when the tv goes pop how do you tell which board

The majority of the time it is the Y Sustain module. I, myself being in the service industry, I always replace the Y drive boards also. The Y main is the large board on the left and connected to that is the y drive boards or board, depending on the model. Check for pico fuses open on the Y and that's a give-a-way.

My 50" ps50b451b2w Samsung has just had a new main

Clicking sounds like a bad power board. There are small relays on power boards that would make a clicking noise.

I don't know why a main board would have been replaced for that, as I don't know of any main boards with relays or anything that would cause a clicking noise on them.

Hi:
This is the X-systain board replace this board and your problem will be solved. The part number can be found on a white sticker some where on the board. Get the number and google it or enter it on E-Bay because alot of shops sell these boards when the get units with bad screens. Or try www.shopjimmy.com for a new board.

Tv powers on get a white bar with black stripes on the side and when I hit buttons on the remote control more colored bars come up. Has anyone had this problem before and fixed it

My first guess would be the Y-sus board, check for blown fuses, also the buffer board check ic and look for chip on buffer ics down the left side of the set in back.

I have a 42 in Samsung HD plasma tv about 2 1/2 years old I heard a popping or sparking noise and the picture went blank, the sound is perfect but absolutely no video.

The most common cause of this is the Y-SUS board. It is located on the left side when you have the back cover off. However, it is not uncommon for this failure to be the result of failed Buffer IC on the Y-Drive board. This board(s) is/are attached between the Y-SUS and the panel. They will have several 1/2 inch square IC chips, usually with hot glue around their edges. You should inspect these closely. If you notice a pin hole with soot, that board should be changed as well. This is not a 100% inspection, just a visual check. If you have a DMM, you could also perform a diode check on the ICs. Additionally, the Vs supply should be measured with and without connection to the Y-SUS to verify the power supply.

LG Plasma 42pc3d turns on, pops, then turns off

The first thing you should look into is the Z-SUS board, the one situated on the right side viewed from the rear. This board develops a high voltage during operation that might be the source of the popping sound. It is also responsible in refreshing the panel for proper picture display. The weird colors on your TV indicates a faulty Z-SUS board.
Note: Unplug the TV and wait for at least five minutes in order to allow the voltages to drain before you disconnect or reconnect any connector.

  • Disconnect the Z-SUS board from the Y-SUS board. The Z-SUS board is situated on the right side viewed from the rear of the TV while the Y-SUS is on the left.
  • Plug the TV back and turn it on.
  • You will still be able to see the weird colors the moment the TV shut off but do not flash. If it does not pop and stays on and there's a sound, you are pretty sure the Z-SUS board is faulty. Replace it.
  • If it still pops and shuts off, disconnect the Y-SUS board from the power supply. The Y-SUS board also develops a high voltage during operation. The power supply is the one right between the Z and Y-SUS boards.
  • Re-apply AC power then turn the TV on.
  • You'll not be able to see any color or video. If it does not pop and stays on with sound, you have a faulty Y-SUS board, replace it.
  • If it still pops and shuts off, please let me know.
Feel free to update me of the result and your own findings.

Picture covered with big block of black - 3/4 of the screen ???

It sounds like your tv may require a plasma panel, but to be sure remove the back of the tv unit and check the y-sus printed circuit board as well as the z-sus printed circuit board, check that they are getting the correct voltage and that there are no blown compoments on the boards themselves. The boards names, z-sus and y-sus are written on the board as well as the voltages are listed down the side of where the plugs at the boards meet. Good Luck. Oh , and also, check with LG that it doesnt require a software upgrade.

LG 42INCH PLASMA TV BLANK SCREEN

Open the back cover and check the fuses on Y Sus Board and X Sus Board. If you can find a blown fuse, just replace that board and your problem will be fixed.

i am familiar with this power supply in philips models. this fault code on the psu refers to a fault within Vscan circuitry. you will be unable to check correct voltages as the set is in protection mode.

you can disconnect the Y-Sus board(to the left of the psu) and if the led stops flashing you can almost guarantee the Y-Sus pcb is faulty!
