The problem is with this acer 4520-5582. It turns on for 1 second and turns off. The battery charge indicator works and indicates when the battery is charging or when fully charged. The screen is always black or blank. I removed the hard disk and replaced the ram with the old one removed for an upgrade (a long time ago). So it is not RAM nor Hard Disk. The CAPS and NUMBER lights blink for 1 second also when turning on. If I keep pressing the power button after a while it may stay on for a few seconds, then turn off. Tried with and without battery. Any Help???

Can you hear the system fan running? If the fan fails, the PC shuts down itself to protect the processor from FRYING.

exact same problem, the system fan starts up, the cd drive light flashes and beeps as well just before it shuts itself down again.
i was told about 2 months ago that part of my motherboard was slightly burnt out, but they said they cleared it up best they could and it should be ok, if it is completely burnt out i assume that the laptop is dead, which is annoying as it's in great condition and only owned for about a year and a half!
Sounds like a motherboard problem. What happens if you disconnect the battery and only hook up the ac adaptor and turn on the laptop, does it stay on then?
