Try this:
Since you can get into safe mode, from the Run box, type msconfig.
Click on the "Startup" tab and select "Disable All" at the bottom.
Now try to boot into normal mode.
Since you can run in Safe Mode, Windows is working. Once all the drivers kick in, something is making it crash. By disabling all the startup items, you can see if Windows will boot normally. If it does, you can re-enter msconfig and enable those startup items that work.
Alternatively, you can do a system restore from safe mode back to the time that Windows worked normally. Then figure out what it was that you installed.

First, see if you can run diagnostics from the F12 menu or from the Dell Resource CD and see if the HDD or any other hardware indicates a failure. If you are having a hardware failure, there is no point in trying to fix a software issue until the hardware is fixed.

If the HDD fails diags, replace it. If it passes, then try booting to the XP CD, and see if you can boot to recovery console, and run CHkDSK /R

When i turn my computer dell latitude d620 on it comes to the dell screen then the windows xp screen and then it goes black with nothing more than the mouse. what could be the problem?

This sounds like a video issue. Try starting the system into safe mode (after the dell screen, tap F8 to get the startup menu and then select safe mode) When in safe mode, go to the control panel and remove the display adapter driver from the device manager under System > hardware tab. Try booting into normal mode windows- you should be able to get into windows at that point. Download and reinstall the graphics driver from support.dell.com. If the issue reoccurs after you've reinstalled the graphics driver, it means that the video card on your system has gone out. At that point, contact Dell technical support if you are in warranty to get service- if not, try pricing the replacement video card from Ebay or Dell parts service.

Dell Latitude D620 When I open my laptop the screen will not come back on. I have to turn it off and turn it back on to get the screen to work.

Sounds like it's going into a sleep/standby mode. Check your manual for the correct key/key sequence to restore it to full operation.

Can't get the Latitude D600 to reboot

You will need to re-install windows, or use the windows recovery solution..

To use the recovery solution:

Insert your windows installation CD

reboot the computer

when prompted, push any button to boot from the CD

When asked if you want to install, or use the recovery console, select " install "

You will be promted again to install or use recovery, use " recovery "

Windows will delete hardware profile information, then continue to install as normal. Once completed, you should be able to use windows normally again, and you should not lose any data on the drive, nor any software installed or settings.

HELP!! (dell precision 340) im getting 4 screens when i turn on m

Reboot into Safe Mode by repeatingly tapping on F8 while in process of rebooting and then select "last known good configuration". If that fails reboot again to safe mode and select safe mode with command prompt and in the command prompt type "chkdsk /f /r " <enter>

If that doesnt work do place your Windows CD into the Cd-Rom, reboot and select option "Repair"

Screen resolution resets to 800x600 after every reboot when d/port is connected.

You may have to set the monitors resolution to match the pc as they may be different.
