After backing-up the data on my ps3 console and loading linux on my hard drive I can't restore the data. The console recognizes the memory stick, but says there is no backup data on the memory stick. I put the memory stick in my computer and there is 7 gb of data on it. Any thoughts?
In my case the problem was that the USB device did not re-mount after the PS3 restarted.
Try this:
Start the backup restore process.
Remove the USB device
sometime after the PS3 starts formatting
Once the PS3 has restarted, re-attach the USB device.
Wait for a while to allow the device to mount
(about 15-30 seconds) before pressing the PS button to continue!
SAFE MODE:
1.
Place you
finger on the on/off sensor leave it their until you console turns off then
take you finger off the sensor.
2.
Place your finger back on the on/off sensor
leave it their until you hear 2 consecutive beeps then take your finger off.
3.
Once the safe mode screen comes on select the
option PS3 SYSTEM RESTORE.
NOTE: A PS3 system restore will delete all
data except the OS. I recommend backing
up your console onto a USB flash drive if possible.
Once you have restored your system you can then use the USB drive and restore it to what your old drive had on it. You also need to know that you have to be able to format the new drive into a FAT32 system, you can do this by using the swissknife program.
Enter Safe Mode and select "Restore File System". "Restore File System" will attempt to repair damaged files on the hard drive. If this does not work, try the next step.
2. Rebuild Database
Enter Safe Mode and select "Rebuild Data Base". "Rebuild Data Base" will erase messages, playlists, changes made on [Information] screens, trimming information for pictures in [Photo], video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information. Then attempt to rebuild the PlayStation 3 database. The content that is erased will not be recoverable. If this doesn't work, try the next step.
3. Restore PS3 System
Please note this will erase all content on the hard drive and will not be recoverable.
Enter Safe Mode and select "Restore PS3 System". "Restore PS3 System" will restore the default settings and will format the hard drive. If this doesn't work, try the next step.
4. Re-seat the hard drive
If you have replaced the hard drive in the PlayStation 3, make sure it was installed properly. If the hard drive is not seated correctly, it may cause problems.
5. Try another hard drive (if possible)
There may be an issue with the hard drive that is installed. Try replacing the hard drive with another one.
