Can't get it to go above channel 23... (nothing wrong with cable hook up)

Hi - I have an old (20 yr.) 27" Mitsubishi TV. I can't seem to get an channels over 23. I have the same TV in another location and it works fine. I have Time/Warnner cable (direct cabel line) and previously had a Sony in the same location with the cabel hook up and that TV worked fine. The only way to get anything over 23 is to hook it up to a Radio Shack box. I can't do that in the location I want to put the TV in. Does anyone know why this TV won't go above 23? We have tried the programming feature that scans all the cable channels and re-programs the TV - but nothing seems to work. Help!

get a test tv verify with the same connection that it can get those higher channels because cable companies have the right to change programing. next verify that when you are programing the tv it is set to catv and not ant or air because frequencies over air are different than frequencies sent over cable and there for will not find all forward carrier signals.

All done so far looks good. But the part where you went into the menu is about i'd like to talk:

before you send to auto-program feature. try to find changing the band where the tv is working now.
Let me explain.
The tv is looking channels in the antenna or air band. Make sure you change the selector to CABLE.
this selection usually it is previous to send to auto-program.
if all this was done and nothing change, we need to send the tv into the workshop to check the tuner and voltages related to it.

Esa tv digital to analog

Hi.I assume you can watch some channels, using your indoor digital antenna. As far as I know, you need an intermediate "box", or interface between the cable TV coming in, and the decoder. This has to be installed by the cable company. Between the decoder and the interface, there are two connections. One signal connection and one UTP wire connection for communication between both units. At least, that's how it works in Belgium and most other countries.

The mitsubishi model vs-60805 tv will provide air channels off of cable hook-up, but does not provide cable channels. What needs to be done to recieve cable channels? The menu does not provide an apparent...

Hi,
Mitsubishi VS-60805 is 1999 model tv and unable to receive digital cable channels because it is equipped with analog tuner that can not receive cable channels because it is almost 11 years old.
You need to hook Cable Box in AV input of tv, plug digital cable in cable box and get digital cable channels in tv. Cable box has its own remote control and inbuilt digital tuner to receive all digital cable channels and widely available in Store, Radio Shake, amazon.com etc.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Help

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Offhand, the easiest connection method would be to use a short RF patchcord to connect the RF out of the DVD/VCR to the ANT/CABLE/RF IN of the TV. Set the TV to Channel 3. To continue able to receive ant/cable channels, the cable input should go to the ANT/CABLE/RF IN of the VCR/DVD.

Tuner problem?

This is an indication of a bad ground connection. Since you have replaced the cable and splitter, it suggests an internal grounding problem. If you can solder and can get to the tuner, resolder the ground points within the tuner and update this with the results.

Missing Channels

you may have a bad tuner that is the part that changes the channels. If there is the input jacks you can use them to input a VCR or cable box and use them as a tuner

Sanyo tv...something is wrong with the imput on my tv or on the remote. the screen says to check all terminals on back and press the up channel key. when i do this it just scans the channels then returns...

jtrent2- O.k you say your t.v has nothing hooked to it at all, what do normally have hooked to it. Do you normally run coax cable,or rca input. The tv is looking for your source ,hook up your regular source, and see what you get. The tv needs to see a source,of some kind. Try hooking a vcr to the cable connector on the back, play a tape and scan your channels. The tv should pick up the vcr as channel 3 or 4 and lock in. Try this and let me know,I can help you. cooltek Mar,3/08

I cant get the tv to go to higher channels

Most tv's have an Antenna mode and a cable mode. If you have cable tv service, the cable mode must be selected in order to receive channels higher than 23. Then you must auto program the channels thru the menu screen on the tv to receive the channels above 23. If you have a house antenna or rabbit ears, its hit or miss on receiving all VHF and UHV channels.

Cant access "Antenna" in tv menu to change to cable

Hi,
It sounds like you haven't selected cable in the "pull-down" menu. You see, you physically have to tell your tv if you're selecting "over-the-air" programs(free), or cable. Select the cable option &
then run "auto-select". Your tv will go through it's steps & find your cable stations. I hope this helps.
