Dryer stops running after 5 minutes

I have a hotpoint dryer that will stop working/running after 5-10 minutes even though the timer is still going. The load in the dryer isn't large and the lint trap is empty. If I restart the dryer after a couple of minutes it will again dry for another 5-10 minutes. Do you have any suggestions as to what it could be? Thanks, Carissa

Sounds like the motor is over heating , does it make noise when you restart it?

SOURCE: Frigidaire dryer, lots of lint getting past screen.

Hello,
Here is a link to an exploded view and parts list for your dryer. http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php
If you are certain that the filter is not compromised or damaged and is properly seated into the housing , you may have a problem with the housing itself whereby lint is getting into the blower thru a break in that housing.. I would examine that area for damage.. and make sure when you reinsert the filter, it is seated all the way down.. Hope this helps you... BTW: over time, it is not unusual for lint to build up in the duct since some of that lint is smaller than the filter media and will work its way thru.. If you are getting that degree of lint build up very quickly then you may have a problem as mentioned above..
Regards,
Rick

Why does the dryer cut off after approx 5 minutes

Dryer: Starts then stops. If an electric dryer starts but then stops before the load is dry, a clogged exhaust vent may have caused the dryer to overheat and trip the thermal fuse. ... A bad drive motor, failed timer or faulty electronic control board can also stop the dryer before the cycle ends.

Neptune Dryer Time keeps going forever

your problem is most likely an issue with the start button. if it is stuck, the dryer will keep running even though it has passed the off position. your start switch probably needs replaced. Joe
