Spark Plug literally shot out of my mower. I have a Bolens 22'' 500 series 158cc. It didnt have a spark plug in it when I got it from a friend, I did some research and found the plug J19LM (Champion) is what I am using. Wrong plug? What do i need to do?

Check to see if the threads are damaged in the head
they can be repaired with the proper kit. also the plug may need a gasket

When you take off the carburetor initially, you should change the gasket if it tears or just old looking, your problem is in the carburetor, probably. Take it apart remembering where the parts go. There are some diaphragms or gaskets and screens on some, tiny jets and such that are inside the little "bulb" or bowl, that can usually be taken off with a 10mm wrench. They also have little fiber gaskets and a bowl gasket or o-ring that must be in great condition with no trash. Clean off with starter fluid or carburetor cleaner.

SOURCE: I have a lawn mower that needs a spark plug. I

reason for different plugs are because motors require different lengths ,temperature, design etc-it may run now but if its to long-or short can cause engine problem or damage-same for hot or cold can burn valves-or carbon up valves or plug -change it to the recommended plug mower will last longer with correct replacement parts

A champion cj 8 plug will work fine. As far as air filter it is probably a paper on, take the old one to a dealer or small engine repair shop and they can match it up for ya.

How is your compression? If it is low, your piston rings and/or the cylinder walls could be damaged and pulling oil up to the combustion chamber, which will burn oil and foul the plug. If you overfill the oil you could possibly get this also. When was the last time that you changed the oil and/or put oil in it? Do you currently have proper oil level?
