I have chronic allergies or sinus problems and no otc meds seem to help. what type of doctor should I visit???

  • Barrissimo Oct 15, 2019

Without knowing what otc medications you tried, harder to give a useful answer. But here goes.
    1) Try neti / sinus rinse w. sterile salt water. Either you can buy a spray bottle type, or get a neti pot. Always boil the water first if doing neti. You can google up neti.
    2) Sinuses are self-cleaning, by a combination of mucus secretions and special hair-cells that make the mucus flow. If the mucus is too thin or too thick, it doesn't flow well. Two things that assist this self-cleaning are guiafenesin (eg. "Mucinex") or N-acetylcysteine. Both are OTC. The latter can be ordered online.
    3) An OTC medication for sinus allergy that is often overlooked is "Nasalcrom" (or get the generic, cheaper.) This **** quiets down the allergic reactions in the nose, but it's not a steroid nor an antihistamine. (Specifically, it's a mast-cell stabilizer, cromolyn sodium.) It takes some time to work though.
    4) Nasal sprays claimed as "decongestants" cause a kind of dependency. When the effect wears off, you're more congested again, and need to keep using them.
    Here's a discussion of nasal sprays.https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/article...
You'll note they don't even mention Cromolyn nasal sprays. That's simple ignorance IMO.

I agree with previous answer ENT Doctor is best
also have you tries inhalation therapy (steam)
and Neilmed rinse?
I was taking meds for a few years due to various injuries to nasal cavity..ie rugby and self defence
I also suffer from chronic sinusitis
I was told to try inhalation and neilmed rinse and have gotten great relief.
initially the rinse is off putting as you are squirting a saline solution up your nose and it goes back your throat so you have to spit it into the wash basin and feels yuck but believe me it works and I'm used to it now.
pills are not the answer in my opinion they are the get out of jail card and are prescribed for everyone
Give it a go aye? see how it goes for a week or two. I would defo reccomend a combo of steam inhalation with olbas oil and Neilmed rinse. ask your pharmacy for recommended brands in your locale
best wishes and hope you find relief.

You should have a primary doctor that you see for basic things like physicals. That doctor would recommend who you might see based on your physical condition and history. If you don't have a primary doctor, see an ear, nose and throat doctor. They may then send you to an allergist.

Its unwise to remove the laptop's keyboard as it might get complicated while rearranging the keys back.

Get laptop blower to cleanup the dust and buy a silicon based keyboard dust protector to protect the keyboard in the future

SOURCE: My doctor said I am suffering from a chronic cough. What does that mean?

A chronic cough is one that has lasted for 8 weeks or more. It's usually a symptom of something else rather than a disease in itself and so it's important to see a doctor to find the real cause which could be anything from asthma to allergies, to something more serious. Good luck.

SOURCE: my dog has yellow looking worms like rice in his stooland I bought him an otc meds for him. Charlie still has them and I cant afford the vet. What other otc can I buy?

Check ebay for dewormer. I've never found an otc med that actually worked. You can find people selling dog and cat meds on there for lower than the vet price. Good luck!

Is sinusitus contagious?

Neither bacterial or allergic sinus infections are contagious. Bacterial sinus infections occur when a person's nasal passages are blocked for an extended period of time, allowing bacteria to grow. In some cases, allergies can lead to chronic sinusitis, which can last for months

Chronic meds for granuloma annulare

Maybe you need to get a consultation from your doctor. I was using www.hgha.com/types-of-injectable-testosterone/ to decide what I need to do with my health and testosterone level. There are a lot of different specialists to get medical consultation.

Definition of Chronic otitis externa and is surgery required to fix it.

Otitis Externa means infection of the outer part of the ear canal. It is also sometimes called Swimmer's Ear. It is caused by a chronic irritation. Chronic means it keeps happening for long periods of time. The irritation can be due to water in the ears, especially those who swim in ponds or lakes. It can also be caused by allergies, or putting stuff in your ears, like dirty fingers or cotton, or dirty earplugs. It can be very painful, and can affect your hearing. You should see your doctor, you may need antibiotics, allergy medicine, or ear drops for pain.

How am I going to find an antibiotic i am not allergic to

There are several different classes of antibiotic, not all penicillin derivatives for instance. It is not clear here whether you have tried a broad range of them, or only one class.

I have a relative with this difficulty, and the last I heard she was trying out Monurol and Macrobid. I think these are synthetic antibiotics, but no guarantee they are right for you, so you must ask the doctor.

I am not a doctor myself, so can only add that you probably should seek out a specialist doctor in this area for advice, since if you ever need major surgery it is going to be a problem.

When laying down too sleep, ears will sometimes click and sinuses drain in the morning

Well this isn't a cell phone question, but I have a solution anyway.
Short answer is that you have allergies. The clicking you hear is from your eustation tubes. They allow the pressure in the middle ear, behind the ear drum to equalize with atmospheric pressure and prevent damage to the ear drum. They also drain mucus from the middle ear. Allergies and sinus infections can cause the tissue and glands around or near the tubes to become inflamed and put pressure on, or block the tubes. The clicking you are hearing is the tubes opening and letting mucus drain. You can reduce the pressure being put on them by taking Ibuprofen. Pseudoephedrine also helps, but will keep you up at night. You can reduce your allergies, and thus the inflammation effecting the tubes with an antihistamine. Claritin, Zyrtec,or Allegra are antihistamines that should not cause drowsiness. All can be purchased over the counter, and have generics. You can also take Benadryl (Diphenhydramine), but it WILL cause drowsiness. You might also talk to your doctor about nasal sprays for allergies. Another method of treating allergies is a sinus wash with a Neti pot. It is a great alternative to medications or used in conjunction with them. There are several options available under the NeilMed brand.

I have pretty bad seasonal allergies and fly for a living (they don't go together very well). I use one or more of the above non-drowsy antihistamines and a steroid nasal spray to treat cause of the allergies. I also take Ibuprofen 200mg-800mg, and Pseudoephedrine 30mg-60mg to treat the symptoms, like head ache, head pressure, and congestion. Along with occasional use of a sinus wash. This is what works for me, though you should consult with your doctor before taking any new medications that might interact with any current medications or health issues.

Is snoring only caused by being overweight? I am asking because my husband has started snoring recently but he is really skinny so I can't understand why he is doing it.

Being overweight is definitely a factor in snoring but there are many other reasons why people snore, such as; having a cold or any sinus issues, after drinking alcohol, allergies and even just from the anatomy of a person's mouth. If it's really bothering you, ask your husband to check with the doctor what might be causing it.
