Unregulated pressure then safety valve releases pouring out steam

La Pavoni PC-16 Espresso Machine
My machine seems to overheat and not regulate pressure causing the safety valve to blow steam. I tried resetting but the next time I tried the pressure kept rising past 1.5 without regulating so I turned it off.

Hi there,
It seems to me that your pressure stat which is inside the base of your machine needs replacing. I would try to give it a good descale and if this doesn't do the trick then a new pressure stat is what you need. Prob around £20 if you buy it and do it yourself. www.theespressoshop.co.uk and just click on the little la pavoni machine for full parts list.

We have a La Pavoni epg-8 Latte machine. When I turn it on steam escapes through the cap of the boiler. We have only used it about a dozen times, so its practically new. the O-ring appears to be in good...

Hi there,
I am an engineer that services these machines on a daily basis. Good news - you are not missing anything at all. The type of cap you have, has a safety release valve built in which will be the hissing sound. If you fill the boiler as normal, turn on the machine and allow to boil up as normal and if steam starts hissing out and does not stop then just give it a light tap and this should stop. Basically when these machines are new the spring inside sticks and once you have tapped it a few times to release it, it should loosen it up and it will give a brief hiss then stop as the machine heats up. I hope this helps but if you have any further questions you can get me at [email protected]

Steam Wand Leaking on La Pavoni Espresso Si

I HAD the same problem. I fixed it for 50 cents. It takes the removal of 4 screws (2 phillips on top, 2 long standard on bottom by the group) to remove the top to access the steam wand valve. Once the the top (and the chrome bezel) is removed, then screw out the valve counterclockwise buy ALL THE WAY until it comes out. There are 2 O-rings on the stem of the valve that wear out, Cut these off with a sharp knife, go to your local hardware store, buy 2 new ones for 50 cents, install new O-rings, and reverse the disassembly procedure. Voila, no more leaky steam valve!

Water leaking from the group

Hi there,
You can buy a service kit for your machine at www.theespressoshop.co.uk and that contains all replacable gaskets and washers and gives you an exploded diagram and sachet of grease and descaler to get your machine back in as new working order. The service kit you require is the "old group service kit" and is about £20. If you go to the website above and click on the la pavoni machine on the right hand side of the home page it will give you the full parts list.

Steam fitting leaks

Hi there,
Yes you require a special spanner which has a slight bend at the top. You can get them at most hardware or mechanic style stores as it is a type of tool mechanics would use. I believe it to be either a 16mm or 19mm. Once you have a tool that fits, hold onto nut inside boiler and unscrew the steam assembly in an anti-clockwise fashion and remove. there will be a brass washer and nut which will probably fall into the boiler. Remove these from boiler and if you go to www.theespressoshop.co.uk and click on the la pavoni machine on the right it will take you to a full parts list where you can purchase a new washer and nut. Then just re-attatch in opposite fashion.
I hope this helps.

Steam escapes while machine tries to heat up

Hi,
That big nut is the pressure relief valve. It should normally be closed, unless the machine overheats, in which case it will vent the steam, thereby preventing an explosion.
The valve design means that it's somewhat normal for some steam to vent as the machine heats up, but once it gets close to working temperature, it should seal.
Pavoni does now have a replacement valve that avoids this problem. When your machine needs a major service, hopefully more than 5 years from now, you may decide to get the upgraded valve fitted.
