Winding wound i have a tag carrera auto w skeleton back. i noticed a screw protruding from the movement of the watch and blocking the swing arm of the automatic winding feature. after a few months of saving money to bring it to the local dealer for repairs, the screw is no longer protruding. the dealer says to just wear the watch. could this be a feature to protect from overwinding? should i be worried about a lose screw that could fall into the movement and damage the watch? please advise

SOURCE: Just want to ask about my new tag heuer watch???

Yes. it's normal to hear that soft noise when winding manually as all the gears gets engaged.
I would recommend watch rotator (winder) by Wolf Designs, Module 1.7, but you can choose for yourself.

SOURCE: I need to know if I need to purchase a watch winder for my TAGs

Use a winder if you must but I recommend just winding and setting when you want to wear them as most winders I have seen are very cheap and unreliable. Expect up to 50 hours from most watches usually not less than 30, this is if the have recent< 5 years, overhaul.

SOURCE: I have a Tag Heuer

If your watch is "automatic" then would I be right in thinking you took it off for a few days and it stopped?

If this is the case (since most of the Carrera range are automatic, then the spring will have run down and needs re-winding.

You were correct in thinking that shaking it will re- start it but to keep it going you need to shake it gently from side to side for some time. (One supplier quoted 500 times!) be patient and keep wearing it.

Tag carrera automatic stops at 12

It sounds like your Tag Carrera automatic watch may be experiencing an issue with the automatic winding mechanism. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Make sure that the watch is fully wound. If the watch is not fully wound, it may not have enough power to keep running.
  2. Check the balance wheel and pallet fork for any debris or obstruction that could be preventing the watch from running.
  3. Inspect the winding rotor for any signs of damage or malfunction. The winding rotor may need to be replaced if it is not functioning properly.
  4. Check the control panel for any error codes or messages that may indicate the cause of the issue.

I have a folio 21 jewels limited addition watch. I dont know how to wiend it. And I need to know what its worth.

I have no idea of the value.
You say that it's self-winding, but that you don't know how to wind it? Just wear it - the movement of the arm and wrist winds the watch. If the watch is fully wound down then it may take a while for the watch to have enough power to restart. Some automatics will allow you to wind the watch in the normal way with the crown.

Everytime my self winding runs down, why do I spend hours trying to get started again?

An automatic watch receives it power from the mainspring, which is wound by hand (most watches) and from movement of the arm which causes the Oscillating Weight to spin around and wind the mainspring. The problem is that it takes many, many rotations of the weight to put enough winds on the mainspring to keep it going. If you have not worn the watch for 24 hours you need to put initial winds on the mainspring, either by turning the crown or by swinging the watch around 30-40 times. If the watch is in good mechanical condition, once you put the initial winds on it, you can put it on your wrist and it should run overnight if taken off. Most older Seiko watches cannot be wound by hand.

I'm not sure about this arm movement.

if the watch as not been worn for a long time it's best to wind it by hand first to get it started, just make sure the winder is pushed all the way in and then just keep winding it clockwise till it start going..

I have had my Grand Carrera for 7 months and I don't always wear it every day. Recently, I noticed the hands quit moving, usually a light shake would restart them. There is also a noise when I move the...

This sounds to me as the Oscillating weight is getting loose and touching the movement. There could be a loose screw as well. That's why your watch is stopping (not enough power to fully auto-wind the spring). There is nothing you can do, I'm afraid, but to show watch to the watchmaker for proper inspection. The longer you'll wear it as it is - the more damage will be done.

How do I wind up my tag carrera automatic using the crown??

Wow, how wrong yall are.

There are three positions for the Carrera's push-down crown. The inner position is used for normal wear and winding. To wind the crown manually, simply rotate it clockwise.

Changing the date on the Carrera is done from the middle crown position. Turn the crown clockwise to advance the date, one day at a time. Push the crown back to the inner position when finished.

The outer crown position is used for setting the time. You can turn the crown in this position either clockwise or counter-clockwise. Adjust the time forward or backwards. Setting the time backwards will not damage the watch. When the time is correct, press the crown all the way into the inner position.

Do Carrera automatic watch need a battery to run? because it stop me alot that why it just run for a few mins and stop forever until i move again

Automatic watches are mechanical (spring driven) and they are wound by the gentle swinging of the arm as you walk.

If yours has stopped, then it needs to re-wound by swinging it side to side (keeping the watch face level).

You will need to do this for some time (as many as 300 times, according to one maker).

When fully would the watch should run for about 3 days if not worn.

These watches thrive on use!

Lets get down to the facts.

The watch may have been serviced and may have been the beginning of this problem.

BUT is it really a problem?

Changing a 1230 or 0330 still means its on the correct date in the morning.
