I had to replace the switch in my Kirby G6. It took some doing but I got in out and the new one in. I must have miss labeled the wires because when I pull backwards the clutch pushes forward. There are 4 wires (2 vertical and 2 horizontal) that connect to the switch. Any idea where I can find the correct wiring diagram?

One of the experts from www.vacservicecenter.com advised me
to reverse the two wires which I had attached to the prongs which stick out the
back of the switch. Once I flipped the two horizontal wires (top to the
bottom and bottom to the top) the machine is working great!

    Thanks guys.

Splicing kirby electric cord

If you are unsure on how to splice the cord back together it may be best to just purchase a new cord. You can find a new G6 cord and it is easily installed into the switch at the base of the Kirby.

Below is a link to GoodVac.com. They have a Kirby G6 Manual for $9.30. Although it is labeled for the G6, it is applicable to models G3 through the Sentria. ("G" = Generation)

Also on this page is a weblink to their "Online Kirby Vacuum Manual". It will explain how to replace the roller brush belt.

Kirby G6 won't turn on.

If the brushead is removed, there is a safety switch which prevent the machine from operating if the brushead is removed or not installed correctly.Either this switch or the main power switch could be the culprit,as well as the cord.

Kirby G6 Power Switch Test ?

You can look at the wiring diagram and try to figure out how to use a circuit tester to test the switch but I would just suggest just swapping it for a good one (always good to have one good switch for testing) and see if it solves the problem.

My kirby g6

Try taking it to a local kirby office and ask them if there is anyone in your area that can refurbish the motor instead of replacing everything. If that doesn't work ask a local dealer or call the dealer that you bought it from and tell them that you would like to trade your old one in for a newer one. I used to work for Kirby and I can guarentee that the Kirby itself, straight from the factory only runs about $200!

Kirby G6 no power

Could be the switch, I would check the cord 1st. It has 2 wires running thru it, one may be open. That power cord goes bad often, if anyone is pulling on the wire rather then the plug, then it would have have stretched and break.
