I take it you mean it will not turn at all? if the machine is a couple of years old >2 it is possibly the brushes on the motor you may want to look there.

Re: will not spin during any cycle w/ or w/out clothing...
That sounds like something else, I had a similar problem yesterday, the washer would stop after a few mins, I traced the fault to the water hoses, it was plummed in with a hot water feed that can get dirty over time. this had blocked the inline fiter stopping water getting into the machine, if it does not fill within three minutes it can cancel, I cleaned the filter and was out in 10 minutes.

You never want to over load your machine, when you do some of the heavier clothes seem to go to one side of the machine. When the spin cycle starts and it's making that loud sound, open it up, wait for the spin to come to a complete stop, then make sure clothes are evenly around. Then put the lid back down it should be fine then. If it's not, then repeat above steps. I hope this helps. Thank You for using FixYa.
I had that problem and it was the drain pump trying to drain but it coulsn't because it had lint, plastic, 3 underwires a looney some costume jewellery stuck in the pump. By the pump underneath you'll see a black plastic boot leading away from the pump. disconnect this and inside you'll find the lint trap and if you dig you'll probably find the culprit that stopping your pump from moving. Put it all back together and Voila!
I have a kenmore front load washer, model: 417 42042100 It makes loud noise and becomes louder during the spin cycle. The drum is loose when I inspected through the front door. My problem is how to open the cabinet and replace any broken parts.
My kenmore front load did that just a few months after I bought it. Unfortunately it was the the electronic board {brains of cycles} that had to be replaced. Had to replace it 3 times!! Warranty did cover it. Look into your warranty--at that time the boards were $200-$250 each!!
