Before removing the RTC battery, follow these steps:
1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4. Remove the battery.

As far as I understand there is no way to recover it self the dead BIOS, You can only send it to Dell Service Center and get new Bios chip.
Maybe you need to reset CMOS, to make sure the BIOS is dead or not...

As i was upgrading my bios, the power went off, after restarting no display, what can i do? my laptop is hp compaq nc6400

The machine will not start again until a new bios chip is installed or the
board is replaced.
On a desktop a procedure called "hot flashing" can be done but not on a
laptop unless you have the proper equipment and know-how.
Hot flashing is where you get and identical bios chip and replace the one on
the board. After the system is started you pull the chip will the system is on and
replace it with the bad flashed chip. Then you do a regular bios flash upgrade. The key is you
need an identical bios chip to start the process. On a laptop you need either and a identical
chip or the ability to write to the bad chip. Oh and I forgot to mention you need the equipment
to take the board out of the laptop case and get it running
One of two things needs to be done:

1) Replace the motherboard

2) Find someone who knows what they are doing and remove the chip and
reprogram it. You should be able to find one of these guys under Google.

Recover from failed bios upgrade

Hello,
Sounds rather serious, I’m afraid. Depending on your motherboard and BIOS type, that error message indicates either a failure to initialise the Display Card, or a failure to complete the memory check. Have a look at your motherboard manual and follow the instructions to ‘reset CMOS’. That may correct the problem if you’re lucky, but I’m doubtful it will.

If your motherboard has the BIOS chip inserted into a socket you should contact the motherboard manufacturer and see if a replacement chip is available. If not, you are probably confronted with a ‘dead’ motherboard. I wish I could offer a happier message, but BIOS upgrades are always a risk.

For the benefit of any readers thinking about upgrading their BIOS, here’re a few tips:

If your computer is operating smoothly, don’t do it. The main two reasons for performing a BIOS upgrade are
  1. To enable support for a new processor that wasn’t available when the motherboard was manufactured..
  2. To correct a ‘known issue’ with the BIOS for your motherboard that causes your computer to function incorrectly.

Don’t do a BIOS upgrade during inclement weather periods, when your electricity supply may be subjected to ‘flicks’ or ‘spikes’.

Try to avoid ‘Live Update’ functions for upgrading your BIOS – you’re at the mercy of your internet connection if you use them.

For preference, update from floppy disk. But be sure to use a new floppy, format it and add system files, and then perform a ScanDisk on the floppy, enabling the ‘Thorough’ option to ensure that a surface scan is conducted. Only trust your BIOS update files to the floppy after you’re sure it’s a reliable one.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thanks.

Have you tried to reset the bios by removing the battery for around 10 minutes then putting it back in??? i would try this first.

If this is unsuccesful then i really suggest you have burned your bios doing the upgrade... you might be out of luck on this one

PDA stops during Bios upgrade

If you have tryed hard reseting it then

You need to get your hands to a working flash of your pdas operateing system, can be hard to find, I was lucky I found many for mine.

After you have the software and the tools needed, most likely the software will have instructions so it shouldnt be hard to do.

After a successfull reFlash of the operateing system everything should be fine.

If you where playing with the bios you need to flash a working version to it. If you cant do it youself I recommend takeing it to a professional, the bios chip can be hard to reprogram.
