I have a Dell PowerEdge 1600SC device that was turned on. I needed to leave without waiting for it to power down, so I pressed and held the Power button until it shutdown. :-(
Now, when I turn it on, it does not recognize any of the I/O devices (i.e. monitor, keyboard, or mouse). The monitor, keyboard, and mouse were directly connected to the Belkin Omni Cube 2-port device, which in turn was connected to the server at the time that I shut the server down.
To eliminate the possibility that the Omni Cube device was the problem, I connected the monitor, keyboard, and mouse directly to the PowerEdge 1600SC server. However, again, the server didn't recognize any of those input/output devices.
I then disconnected the monitor from the PowerEdge and attached it directly to my laptop to make sure that the monitor is working. The monitor is working as I was able to use Fn + F7 on my laptop to display contents from my laptop onto the external monitor.
My Dell PowerEdge 1600SC has the software for my Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz Broadband Router and my internet connection installed and I am able to still access the internet. Therefore, I know that the PowerEdge server is still functioning....BUT it won't recognize the I/O devices.
What can I do to force it to recognize the monitor, keyboard, and mouse...as it previously did?

Just go into the bios and insert the correct parameters. you shut it off before it could save the settings. Or hit fi on boot and it should take you into the bios and you cand sort it out in there. If you want an easy way, just do a system restore. Start,Programs, accesorys, system tools, system restore, just go back a day or two before you had that issue, and you should be good to go, good luck
The bios screen is before windows boots, as soon as you hit the restart button u have to hit the delete key, tht's how you get into the bios screen, you use the arrow keys esc, and enter keys to manuver , this is where you can set your default parameters. Forget the windows screen this is the bios screen that controls your settings, somehow from playing around you messed with your system settings. In the bios you will be able to turn on you usb ports which will give you back the control of the keyboard and mouse. Unless you somehow messed up the bios, but in order to do that you would have had to have tried to reflash them You will also need to shut down and unplug first. then remove the motherboard battery for 5 minutes,not the laptop battery the motherboard, you will need to open the bottom of the laptop, but try to get into the bios first. Remember as soon as you restsrt you hit the delete key you will go right into a bios setup screen. We do this all day that's what you have to do.
You have to follow the instructions or take it to a tech, it sounds like you just aren't up to doing it, that's ok you are only going to make it worse, my advice is if you feel you cannot understand this stuff just take it to a local repair store, your probablly looking at $250-$350
What you describe can only be fixed if your machine can be diagnosed by a tech, as there are too many things it could be to keep going back and forth like this. Normally if you cannot get in the bios your machine is not going to be able to fixed like this, there are too many variables. Did you clear the settings in the cmos?, take out the motherboard battery wait a few minuter and replace, that will get rid of any bad settings on startup, then try getting in the bios again

Hi,
I cannot do that as the server is not recognizing any of the I/O devices...i.e. monitor, keyboard, or mouse. As such, nothing appears on the monitor at all...as if the server is not sending any signals to the monitor. Pressing F1 on the keyboard doesn't help as the server is not recognizing the keyboard.
Is there any way of overcoming this?
Again, any help would be GREATLY appreciated...thanks.
