search What is the correct spark plug gap?
The spark plug gap on all products is .025-inch.
What type of spark plug does the unit take?
The size of the plug varies from unit to unit. On trimmers, blowers and hedge trimmers is RCJ-8Y or RCJ-6Y. Follow the spark plug recommendation and replacement procedures in the operator's manual if you are doing the work yourself.
Could very well be the magnito (coil). You may also want to check the kill switch. If the switch failed in the off position... = no spark. Plug failure could also be the cause, although not likley. Good luck!
Easy way to test plug is to remove it from cylinder head, then ground its hex base to side of engine..reattatch plug wire and pull starter cord...Do this is dim light...need to see a nice blue spark. So, do that...check the plug gap and plug condition (even if new)...if it's NOT firing...try another plug...if same...you will need to pull the engine covers off and check the "air gap" of the flywheel magnets to the pickup legs on the ignition coil module. You can gap it the thickness of a regular business card (.010"-.014"). The gap has to be present for the spark plug to produce a spark.
You could have a bad spark plug or ignition module. I would find your receipt and find a warranty service center. Reconditioned unit only have a one year warranty on them. If it is in this time frame they will fix it for free.
Do you have fresh gas? If so is the mix right? If you can get to the carb easy spray some carb and choke cleaner in it. Check the gap on the new spark plug. The gap should be located somewhere in the manual. The big problem is making sure that the mix is right. To much oil in gas will foul plug smoke like crazy and foul the plug and hard to start. Not enough oil and you can seize it up.
sounds to me like dirt in gas tank dirty or plugged filter screen on fuel line inside gas tank or plugged pinched or obstucted fuel line . also check for the following pin hole in primer bulb bad spark plug dirty or rusty coil or flywheel magnet.or simply dirty or missadjusted carb if i can be of further assistance let me know i would start with the fuel hoses and make sure they are in good shape first ...do the easiest and cheapest things first good luck hope this gets you up and running good mrdmburns@cableone,net
