Power shut down, why?

It is a bad set and prone to all kinds of problems--considering parts are not available for it I would not attempt to repair this model.

Your lamp is burned out. When powering up the lamp doesn't turn on so the TV shuts down. Replace the lamp and it should fix the problem. This happens with mine about 1 per year and everytime it's the lamp.

My tv which is phillips has sound but no picture,there is two red lights on the front that comes on ,one is for power but what is the other one

The lamp is the only thing that will cause the picture to go darker. According to the model you have the lamp part number is BP96-01472A. The noise you hear could possibly be the color wheel itself. The way to tell is when you turn off the TV the lamp stays on for about 10 seconds longer. Once the lamp shuts off if that noise goes away then it is a bad color wheel. Yes there is a Fan that keeps Lamp cool if it stops running Lamp will shut off it is designed that way to keep lamp cool also if Fans are OK it means Lamp is going out Call Mats 1-800-628-1118 for lamp

Try replacing the Lamp.

replace light bulb,
if you are hearing a click like the stove is because the lamp balast is trying to power on the lamp,

Your bulb is burned out. I have had the same problem. It seems this television has an overheating problem--and short bulb life. I have had our 50 Magnavox dlp for two years and just put in the second bulb before Christmas. You can buy the bulb from a dealer on ebay for $99 and install it yourself. I is not in the housing so you have to carefully take out 4 screws and replace the bulb without touching the face of the bulb. To buy the one from Magnavox with the housing is much more expensive. I think the first time my husband replaced the bulb it took about 45 minutes--this time it took about 20.

Try cleaning the air filter and see if that solves the problem.
