How to Install DLink DIR-615 with only 1 port on my laptop?

Hi,
I've just bought the D-Link DIR-615 and have been trying to install it. The problem is that the instructions say that my Internet connection should be active during the installation, but I only have one Ethernet port on my laptop. I have the cable from my modem (Siemens SpeedStream 5450, ADSL Gateway) connected to my laptop, but during installation am requested to plug the cable from laptop to router. Obviously I then loose the connection.
I can get the connection back on (most times) after proceeding to connecting the modem and the router, but when proceeding on I get a pop-up with the following "Click'n Connect can't discover the Router. Please check the cable connection and make sure the Router is powered on." Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} Alternatively, if I don't set up the connection again before clicking Next, I get the bars running with a note about checking the connections -- until it stops and the screen returns to the 1st screen with "Plug the power adapter..."
I do not know whether it makes a difference that I use VPN and have to have that connected to get to my work email, intranet etc. so I cannot connect without it.
I would really appreciate any advice on how I can get the system set up.

Connect the modem to the router via the ethernet cable. Connect the laptop to the router by means of another ethernet cable in one of the 4 spare sockets. Switch everything off. Turn everything back on one at a time, modem first, then router, then laptop. Allow each unit to fully power up before switching the next one on. Put the installation CD in the laptop and try again. If you are using the laptop wirelessly, make sure the wireless function is switched on!

I got the "click'n connect can't discover the router.." error - I realized the problem was I was connected to a wireless network at the time.

After I've disconnected are retried it worked.

Good luck.

SOURCE: VPN tunnel between two DLINK VPN DIR-130

- Logon to the configuration page of your D-Link.
- Go to Advanced tab
- And Click on Firewall Settings on the left side
- Under that look for Application Gateway Level at the bottom and you must uncheck at the box on it and click on save settings at the top.

SOURCE: dlink dir-615 change nat from strict to open

you will need to change some settings on the router.
reduce the MTU. if the MTU settings on the router is 1500 then change 1365 also you will need to open the some ports on the router.

I lost my installation cd for d-link dir-615 wireles router where can i download the same cd

Access the manufacturer's web-site:

ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DIR-615/

Select the "Revision Level" of your router.
Then, download the software/quick-install-guide/manual for your router.

How do I reinstall a dlink 615 modem. mcafee syys a trojan has been identified each time I try the install disc. can I install without the disc and how?

I can help you with your DLink DIR-615 router problem.

You don't really need to run anything from the disc to install a router - there is no setup program on the dlink cd you are required to run. Routers operate independently of the computers they are plugged into.

The most useful thing on that disc is the user manual, which you can download direct from DLink here. Any other bits and pieces that are on the 'installation CD' are also available from their webpage.

I hope that helps.
