I'm trying to flash my Droid X back to stock. I've downloaded the froyo ios file and used Unetbootin to place it on a usb stick. I've changed the order for booting my pc and actually get to the point where the screen says: Unetbootin, automatic boot in 10 seconds. The countdown gets down then restarts over at 10 seconds and continually does this. If I hit Tab to change options it says: /ubmkern initrd=/ubninit (cursor here for my input). If I hit esc it says: boot: I don't understand what it going wrong. If I'm supposed to input something here, I don't know what.

How to make bootable USB Flash Drive with puppy linux installed on it

Hello!Almost everyone has problems with booting up. Sometime we have some valuable information on our hard drive and we can't boot up, can't start windows and can't transfer our files. There comes question: Can I somehow save my files in safe place? What can I do?One of the easiest way to solve this problem is to create USB Bootable Flash Drive. So we can boot up. then we have to transfer files from our corrupted hard drive to USB Flash Drive.
All you need is:1) USB Flash Drive2) Health (other pc) running on windows3) Software
So let's start!START HEALTH PC.First of all you have to download same small linux distribution. Puppy linux is excellent for this job. And it's FREE, simple, and exremally SMALL. You can Download Puppy linux from the following link:http://puppylinux.org/main/Download%20Latest%20Release.htmNote: When I wrote tutorial latest version of puppy was 5.2.0. But don't panic if our version differs from the 5.2.0. The principe of installing is Same
After downloading we have to download software to make USB Flash Drive bootable and to install Puppy Linux on USB. This software is UnetBootIn(Universal NetBoot Installer). You can download it from here:http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/unetbootin-windows-latest.exe
Plug in your USB.Now start UnetBootIn.Take a look at picture below:mirushaki.png
Note that Drive letter Is the letter for USB you plugged in. For checking go to My computer.
And click OK
wait a while and you are done when it asks for rebooting click Exit. rebooting isn't necessary.
FOR DOWNLOADING AND INSATALLING PUPPY ON USB WE USE HEALTH PC.
Now plug usb in corrupted PC and start the corrupted PC.When it starts, immediatelly press repeatedly ESC for (for asus EEE PC), F8(for some other computers) or F12. Try these keys. Then there comes window that askes you to select bootable device. Choose your USB.then there will come up Puppy Linux boot manager. Don't press anything let's see if puppy starts aotomatically, If not, restart pc, repeat the procedures above and when Puppy boot manager comes up press F3.Then type text below and press Enter:"puppy PMEDIA=usbflash" (or "puppy PMEDIA=usbhd" for USB Hard Drive). And puppy linux will start.NOTE: if it asks about language and time zone, also resolution select with your mind, but make sure that 22" LCD monitor resolution isn't too small(800X600)!)mirushaki.jpg

Now browse for files you want copy them to USB by Drag and Drop method and you are DONE! Now your info is in safe place.
Thank ou for viewing my tutorial.

Boot from usb

Introduction UNetbootin allows you to create bootable Live USB drives for Ubuntu, Fedora, and other Linux distributions without burning a CD. It runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. You can either let UNetbootin download one of the many distributions supported out-of-the-box for you, or supply your own Linux .iso file if you've already downloaded one or your preferred distribution isn't on the list.
Requirements
  • Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, or Linux, or Mac OS X 10.5+. Note that resulting USB drives are bootable only on PCs (not on Macs).
  • Internet access for downloading a distro to install, or a pre-downloaded ISO file
Features UNetbootin can create a bootable Live USB drive, or it can make a "frugal install" on your local hard disk if you don't have a USB drive. It loads distributions either by downloading a ISO (CD image) files for you, or by using an ISO file you've already downloaded.

The current version has built-in support for automatically downloading and loading the following distributions, though installing other distributions is also supported:

Cant figure out how to make the USB restore disk for an AOA150-1635. I purchased the .iso file, but cant get it to create the DVD using Roxio.

usb restore disc?? the iso file would normally be burned to a cd/dvd, but if you must, try this unetbootin-windows-248.exe

How to Boot and Install Windows 7 from a USB (even without an ISO file)

While searching in internet I found 3 ways of doing this thing. I will explain all of them here.
1st Method: (The simple one) * Requires a valid ISO image.
Download Microsoft's official tool to install Windows 7 from your USB stick.
Links below:
From CNET: http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-U...?tag=mncol;pop
MS Store: http://images2.store.microsoft.com/p...B-DVD-tool.exe - Microsoft Store Info Here.
To install the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool:

  1. Click to open the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool installation file.
  2. When you are prompted to either save the file to disk or run it, choose Run.
  3. Follow the steps in the setup dialogs. You'll have the option to specify where to install the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
Note: You need to be an administrator on the computer you are installing the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool on. The tool requires the Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or higher.
2nd Method: (Reliable method, Supports multiple types of image files) Requirements:
Now insert the USB drive, run UNetbootin, and select Disk Image as ISO( or select the type of image file of which you have).
Browse your local drive for Windows 7 that you downloaded and click Open.
Now Select Type as USB and choose the drive.Once done, it will look like a bit similar to the screenshot shown below.

unetbootinmainwindows77.png Click OK and it will begin extracting all installation files to the USB drive. The whole process will take some time(10-15 minutes), so have patience.
Once the installation is complete, reboot your computer. Now while your system is starting up press the appropriate button(usually F1, F2, F12, ESC, Backspace, or Escape) to bring up Bios Boot Menu. Change the startup order to boot USB by default, usually you will have to press F6 to move the selected USB device on top. Once done, save changes and restart the system.
3rd Method:( Try this if both above methods are not working) Using Ultra ISO application.
1) Download the free UltraISO trial by clicking on this
2) Start UltraISO as administrator
3) "Burn" the iso image to the USB stick by following these steps
With UltraISO:
- Open the image of Vista/Win7 with UltraISO
- Under BOOTABLE tab choose WRITE DISK IMAGE
- Choose your USB stick under "Disk Drive"
- Choose a method (It's recommended to use USB-HDD+)
- Press Write
PS: Make sure to change your BOOT order in BIOS to boot from your USB drive first.

Usb Boot stick!

Ok... i've been working on this for a while, Finally got it working! First download the program of your choice to put the image file on your flash drive (unetbootin, FlashBoot, Etc...) theres several out there.... Next download the iso of the OS that you want... You can get it from either a download site on the internet, or download a torrent from LimeWire, Use the program to Convert the ISO file to image format and put it on the flash drive, Next put the USB drive in the computer you want to run the OS on, On the Bios screen (boot up screen) press the corresponding button to change the system settings (usually F2) Choose to Boot from the USB drive, Follow the on screen settings and Your done!!!! Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions you have! I would love to Help! UPDATE: If your using a NetBook or other Computer with low memory, You may Have to download a Text Based Instillation Os, Most download sites offer alternative Downloads for these special computers.

Hello i have got just a black screen on my acer Aspire one notebook can you help please

Hello

Thank you for using
FixYa for your problem

It seems that a lot of people had success reflashing the BIOS from a USB drive using tools provided by Acer. I don’t know if it’s officially supported by Acer or if it will void your warranty, but if the computer’s a paperweight now anyway, what the hell?

It’s very easy to do, but the steps are a bit unclear so here’s my attempt to make the whole thing painless. This worked for me, but it might not for you, so do this at your own risk.
You need:
Download all the files to an easy to find location.
Steps to prepare the USB drive:
  • Format the USB drive using the FAT file system, not FAT32.
  • Start UNetbootin and choose FreeDOS as the distribution. Screenshot here.
  • Unzip the BIOS files and copy them to the USB drive
  • Make a copy of the BIOS file and rename it as ZG5IA32.FD (this appears to be very important – my reflash failed until I did the copy & rename)
Reflash the BIOS:
  • Make sure the AAO is turned off, the battery is attached and the power adaptor is plugged in.
  • Insert the USB drive
  • Press and hold FN + ESC and press the power button to turn it on. Release the Fn & ESC keys. The LED in the power button will flash.
  • Press the power button again once and wait. Mine took ~3 minutes, but I’d advise that you let it sit there for at least 5 minutes just in case your’s takes longer.
When the reflashing is done, the AAO will reboot and, hopefully, you’ll be back to normal.
If it doesn’t work, try reflashing again. The keypress sequence is a little tricky.
If the second try doesn’t work, then you’ll probably have to send it off for repair.
Good luck!!!

Screen is black on my acer aspire one

Well this depends on what model you have. First make sure it is plugged in and the battery is charged, then try turning it on. If this doesn't fix the problem, you may need to update your bios. Acer provides very detailed instructions on this here: http://netbooks-us.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/66/session/L3NpZC9YS2pVZEZLag%3D%3D/sno/0
