Remote control for a Panasonic TH-42PX60U plasma tv not working

None of the buttons will work.... anytime you press one (including the power button) the 'TV' button flashes red 4 times. This is the same with the 'VCR' and 'DBS/CBL' and 'DVD' buttons, if you press one of them then try any other button it will flash 4 times. We have tried taking the batteries out and changing them. The buttons on the tv work just fine.

SOURCE: Panasonic remote and volume/channel buttons do not work

My son put a penny in the SD card slot of my Pansonic flat screen tv. I finally got the penny out but now the volume and tv controls do not work. I can change the channels through my cable box but that is it. The volume does not work on my cable remote or the flatscreen. What do you suggest I do to fix this problem?? Thanks, Josh

Change the aspect ratio to the one you like. Look at the remote and look for a button that says either aspect, pic size or format.

SOURCE: Panasonic Plasma TH-42PX60U, got a power surge.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa.These kind of issues in plasma usually happens due to bad cap on any of the boards inside. However, to check what has gone bad you’ll have to open the back of the unit
you’ll need to check bulged/swollen capacitors on power supply board. As the unit won’t show anything for a long time so it means that it is the power board which is causing this issue. These issues usually happens due to overheating in plasma TVs after sometime, as these sets are very hard working device and produces a lot of heat. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Remote with TV stopped working for vol, AV, and mute. Only power button works. Used new Batt; no change. Used buttons on TV; none work there too. Is there something broken on TV?

If the buttons on the TV -and- the buttons on the remote don't work, then there's definitely something wonky with the TV.

The good news is that the power works and the picture looks good. That rules out a bunch of things. If you don't mind tinkering, replacing circuit boards on TVs is pretty straight-forward -- just take off the back, unscrew the offending board and replace it. You'll have to do a little research to narrow down to the right board to replace -- it might be this key controller board:

Remote control code

1. Press tv on your Sky remote control.

2. Press and hold down select and the red button together until the red light at the top of your Sky remote control flashes twice.

3. Press tv again

Then enter the remote control code using the number keypad. The red light will flash twice if a valid code has been entered.

Panasonic Code: 0051

Won't respond to volume or channel changes red light blinks 20x's when turned off.

It's definitely a firmware problem. I called Panasonic and they were very polite about the entire situation and sent me a SD card with the firmware update. If you don't have time and you're tired of listening to tv at the same volume there is a way to do a hard reset.

I figured that unplugging the unit would do this, but there is one other step that you have to do to ensure that this works.

Generally the power button on the tv is always in the "on" position, this is what allows the remote to work. In order to do a hard reset the on/off button must be in the off position. Make sure that is off, then unplug the unit, let it sit there for a minute or two and plug it back in. If the tv comes back on as soon as you plug it back into the wall/powerstrip then the button was not in the off position.

This isn't the best fix, you'll still need to get the firmware update but it will at least give you the ability to use your tv normally....well until it decides to randomly lock up on you again and you have to do this all over.
