My Canon ImageClass D760 document feed often does not pick up a page and when there are multiple pages in the feed it often picks up several pages at once. I am looking for either self repair or a Canon small copier repair person in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
I would replace the Pick-up roller, Feed Belt, Sepearation roller, and torx Limiter for starters IF you cannot replace them, Clean them with warm water and soap, let them dry, and try the doc feeder, Most Multi feed problems are Torx limiter or clutch problems.

Sept 29, 2020 - This printer has no mechanism to keep the paper from sliding backwards and this was the problem. I have discovered that there is a whole opening at the bottom ...
If the automatic document feeder (ADF) does not pick up any pages at all, the rollers
inside the automatic document feeder need to be cleaned.
If the automatic document feeder picks up multiple pages instead of single
sheets, the separator pad inside the automatic document feeder needs to be cleaned.
SolutionLoad one or two sheets of unused plain white full-size paper into the document
feeder tray, and then press Start Copy Black
to pull the pages through the
automatic document feeder. The plain paper releases and absorbs residue from the
rollers and separator pad.NOTE:If the automatic document feeder does not pick up the plain paper, try
cleaning the front roller. Wipe the roller with a soft lint-free cloth dampened
with distilled water.
If the problem persists, or the automatic document feeder does not pick up the plain
paper, clean the rollers and separator pad manually. Follow the procedures below to remove the face
plate from the front of the automatic document feeder, access the pick assembly
inside the automatic document feeder, clean the rollers or separator pad, and then
reattach the face plate.
The exchange roller kit has all the tires that pick up the paper in the kit (feed, separation, and pick up tires). I think the other tire you are talking about is just one tire not the set. Also check to see a switch on the scanner that is used for single feed or multiple feed. If its on single feed it will multi feed all the time. You can clean the tire with rubbing alcohol too, to see if your double feeding goes away.
There is a little with pad that is called the seperation pad. You can see this under the pick up rollers. Clean this off with some alchohol. It may fix the problem. If not a new pad is needed.
Speration pad needs cleaned or replaced. Its a $10.00 part.
The ADF is the Automatic Document feeder through which you feed the paper in on top of the printer. Usually the cover swivle/opens up, and you can check if there is paper debris in the rollers. Clean the rollers with cotton pad and some alcohol.
When you say it won't copy, do you mean that the paper won't move in the feeder or that no copies come out? Do you get any error messages? Try using alcohol on a swab or lint free cloth and clean the feed rollers in the feeder. They sometimes get paper dust on them and they can't pick up the paper. Also make sure that any paper sensors that detect when paper is in the feeder are intact. Occasionally they get stuck or broken. Hope this works.
