To change startup page, click on the icon that looks like 3 lines (top-right corner below the close button). From there go to Settings. A new tab will be opened and you'll see this:
Click on Set pages, click the x next to ask.com and enter google.com.
Click ok and that should be it.
Remove Google Chrome in Control Panel/Programs. Use another browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox and access Google by going to google.com website.
you could kill it but you will lose anything that is in the browser before it crashed. try launching it again and see if chrome could recover the pages.
try downloading a different browser. IE8 is not a very good one. google crome or firefox are good. i had this problem and found it running better with google crome. but the real problem apparently is with a registry file within windows. the only way to repair this particular issue is to format HDD and reinstall, as a recovery does not re-write the corrupt file
First are you able to login to other websites like google , Microsoft etc ??
IF no then there is internet connectivity problem on the computer.
If you are able to visit these websites and not able to login or browse facebook then try installing Google crome that should fix the problem.

Re-install the Google Crome and make sure the default web browser is not selected as Google Chrome.
There are many websited those are not working in Google Chrome and sometimes computer anticipates the same case and drops the google chrome to work.
