I PERSONALLY JUST USED THIS METHOD!!!
Here is the CORRECT way of programing...
1) Manually turn on the device (TV, DVD) to be controlled.
2) Press and hold code search button until the red indicator stays on. Release the code search button.
3) Press and release the desired mode button (TV, DVD,etc)
4) Press the Channel Up button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel.
5) Press and release the OK button to install the code

Hello People,
I have the original Owner's Manual for that remote. The inside battery pack has a sticker that says "CL034". Which, without having anything else written or stamped on the unit, would leave a reasonably intelligent person to believe that it is some sort of identification number. Wrong, The morons at Philips cost me 3 hrs of my life because they decided this remote model number is "PMDVR8 / PDVR8". Then neglected to mark it somewhere on the device. Why?..... Lazy? Cheap? Incompetant? You decide!
I finally found the orginal. Look up that number, you'll have better luck.

this should work:
SETTING CODES
HOLD THE CODE SEARCH BUTTON DOWN UNTIL THE RED LIGHT STAYS LIT.
PRESS THE DEVICE BUTTON (ie TV)
CHANNEL UP BUTTON UNTIL THE CHANNEL CHANGES. (300 SHOULD BE MAXIMUM)
PRESS THE MUTE BUTTON TO SET THE CODE

I 'M HAVINGTHE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY REDMOTE. WHEN I CHANGED THE BATTERIES, THE REMOTE CONROL STOP WORKING. I used the same solution listed below. The codes are not working for me yet. I know Im programming them right so now I gotta change the batteries. The only thing Im having problems with is trying to program it by brand, mine is the number "5" for JVC. I've tried 0005, just plain 5 and just 0. I have ditched trying that one in favor of the "all search" but the possibility of pushing the button 300 plus times doesnt sound fun. I
wish it had a picture so I can see if it looks like mine. I found the CL034 in the battery compartment labeled on the side of the compartment so Im sure that I have the right model number but want to further comfirm.

I have the solution. If you press "code search"then "TV",then get comfy and press the channel button up unitl the tv changes channel (if you are going too fast you CAN press "channel down"unitl you get back to that frequency), and then press press the öK"button in the middle of the remote, it will work..
