For cube roots, use the cube-root function in the MATH menu. For example, to calculate the cube root of 8, press MATH 4 8 =
For other roots (including cube root), use the xth-root function in the MATH menu. For example, to calculate the fifth root of 32, press 5 MATH 4 3 2 =
Usually "ROOT" is an indication that the player has read the DVD.
ROOT means that the DVD is in the main menu screen.
Sounds like the DVD player is ok, but you may have a loose connection somewhere.
Check all of your AV connections between the TV and DVD.
Also make sure that the TV is set to the same AV channel as the connection you are using.
E.G. if you have connected the DVD to the AV 1 socket of the TV, make sure that the TV is set to channel AV 1.
