You don't need the disk to transfer your pictures from your camera to your computer. Just take your sd card out of your camera and plug it into your computer. A folder with your pictures will appear on your computer. Copy them to a different folder on your computer, so you can take your sd card out and still have them on there.
If that doesn't work, plug the cable in that came with your camera, and hopefully that will work. I hope this helps. Please rate my solution.

Try this, it may work without the software.  Turn off the camera. Plug the usb cable between the camera and the computer. Turn on the camera. If a box pops up on the computer asking what you want to do, scroll down and see if there is an option to view pictures. If a window opens up with all your pictures on it, great. Now open up a folder where you want to put your pictures. Bring up the other window with the pictures in it and hit the control key and the d key at the same time on your keyboard. Then drag your pictures to the window where you want them and let go of the mouse key.  They should all move over. Then you can use Windows image viewer to see them. Let me know if that works.

SOURCE: how to remove the battery from nikon d3000

the little trap door on the bottom houses both the memory card and the battery. you have to push the battery slightly to release it. i fond the easiest way at that point is to tip the camera and the battery usually slides right out.

Transferred photos

If you have not done so, go to the Nikon website at www.nikon.com and download the free Nikon transfer software. Install it on your computer. Once you do, you will be able to transfer both raw and jpg photos from your camera. If you are shooting all raw photos, Windows will not recognize nef file extensions without adding the proper codecs. The Nikon software lets you do this.

Can you use the Quantaray 70-300mm on the Nikon d3000 and or can you use Nikon 55-200mm on the d3000

The Nikon lens, absolutely.

Quantaray makes their lenses with a variety of mounts. A lens with a Canon mount, for example, will not fit on the D3000. Assuming the lens has a Nikon mount, then yes, it will work with the D3000.

I have a Nikon D3000 digital camera. When I turn it on the info menu is displayed on the monitor and I cannot see the image that I am shooting. When I turn the info menu off it turns black and says...

That is the factory setting. If had seen the image on the LCD before taking the picture, then there was something seriously wrong with the camera. The D3000 works as SLRs have worked for over half a century, providing you with a viewfinder to compose your photos.

Which book would be best for a beginner w/ the D3000 to learn the camera

There are a lot of good books. What's best for you would depend on many factors, including how much experience you have or don't have with photography in general and with other Nikons or SLRs.

Below are some recommendations. You might want to browse through a good bookstore and take a look at some of them.

David Busch, "David Busch's Nikon D3000 Guide to Digital SLR Photography"

Julie Adair King, "Nikon D3000 For Dummies"

Jeff Revell, "Nikon D3000 : From Snapshots to Great Shots"

Jon Sparks, "Nikon D3000: the Expanded Guide"

J. Dennis Thomas, "Nikon D3000 Digital Field Guide"

Darrell Young, "Mastering the Nikon D3000"

In addition, there is a free video tutorial on Nikon's web site:

Nikon d3000 wont take photos, does auto focus only

Check the memory card, it could be damaged, or the contacts are not clean. If this does not solve the problem get the camera to a Nikon dealer for repairs, as it could be a software problem.

Nikon d3000

Yes. You can always remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into a card reader. Many laptops and netbooks come with card readers. If your laptop doesn't have one, you can buy an inexpensive card reader that plugs into either USB or FireWire, as appropriate.

This is actually the preferred way of transfering pictures. This is often faster, and also conserves the camera's battery.

If you do go and buy a card reader, I'd also suggest a second memory card, if you don't already have one. You don't want to have to cut short your day's photography just because you filled your one and only card.
