Turn off the machine, unplug the power cord from the back of the machine, remove the ink cartridges (lift the lid up at the base of the control panel), wait 2 min, plug the power cord back in, press the on button, wait until the printer prompts that the ink cartridges are missing, then replace the ink cartridges. If this doesn't fix the problem you may have to re-prime the ink lines to clear the error. I discovered on mine, exact same problem, I opened the tray, removed the cartridge, and forced it back in hard and fast. It didn't work the first 12 times but after that, it got a solid connection and it worked. Works fine now. Anyway that's the problem and the problem isn't the cartridge (genuine hp cart here). The problem is on the printer side, the pins that hit the cartridge. Anyway get rough with it, slam it in and out, close the tray, if it doesn't work within 5 seconds, open the tray and do it again. It WILL work.
