The monitor goes black. when I press the on off it comes back on.

I have a Princeton VL1717. The monitor goes black. When I press the on off repeatedly it comes on then turns off again. The intervals are varied form a few minutes to an hour or more. Is it the switch? I have a differnet model princeton that was going off and on. But I changed 3 capictors as recommended on this forum and it works fine now. Could this be a simalr issue?

m_zuk, Could be. Did you do the flashlight test? Just what do you see AFTER the panel goes to a black screen? Could also be intermittant(thermal) solder joints on the botttom of the SMPS/INVERTER board(s). Do these Princeton monitors have 2 or 3 boards? 2 boards mean you have a COMBO. 3 boards then SMPS and Inverter are separate. You did not state the age of these monitors. Were these units causing problems last month, or six months ago? When did you see a nice a "crisp, sharp, bright" screen last? Have you contacted Princeton to see if they have a REBUILT swapout program? You send them yours + $40 - $90.. They send you same model in return. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol.com. bye for now.

SOURCE: the monitor shuts off. Turning the power off

the monitor is going into power saving mode ... it can happen if it is not receiving any signal from the pc ( pc is not running or booted properly, bad video cable connection monitor to pc) or the pc is itself in suspend/standby mode.

Nothing on screen, black, when on

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed PRINCETON monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Did you use the Fn key and either F5, 6, or 7 to select the internal, external, or both? It depend on the make and model of the laptop.

The ticking sound is from power supply turning on and off.

My LCD Monitor is blinking on & off constantly

It may need a different outlet, if it is not getting proper power. Small chance that the video cable has gone bad, but more likely the monitor is damaged. But try those two things and call Princeton.
