Honeywell RTH8580WF1007 7Day Touch Thermostat Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 25, 2013

Hi, I just bought a Honeywell RTH8580WF1007 and tried to install it, I placed the wires in on the same letters as they were with my old thermostat. However, now that the new thermostat is wired up, it wont come on at all. I've tripped the circuit breaker a few times to see if that fixes it and no such luck. The wiring on the old thermostat was: C= blue, W= white, Y= yellow, RH= red, G= green. The new thermostat doesn't have an RH, so I put the red wire into RC. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi, I just bought a Honeywell RTH8580WF1007 and - 739dfb58-7a38-4a51-a7ed-ab942a7253a0.pngRH is red heat and RC is red cool, red being the "hot leg" of the 24 volt control voltage, normally you will have a jumper from RH to RC, the fact there is an RC tells me there must be an RH too?
I will look after this post and come back if any new info was found, other wise I will say call 1800 Honeywell and provide you a diagram to check out.

I have a black wire on my old thermostat that went to the c terminal my new Honeywell rth2300b does not have a c terminal any ideas which one I should put it to

Cover the bare end of the C wire with electrical tape so that it doesn't contact any of the other wires or parts of the Honeywell thermostat. The C wire carries continuous power from the red wire to some thermostats; this is required for some of the Smart thermostats (with the ability to communicate with your wireless computer network).

The installation directions for the thermostat include how to handle the C wire when installing the RTH2300B. You can find the manual on the product page in several places, including the Honeywell product site: https://www.honeywellstore.com/store/products/5-2-day-programmable-thermostat-honeywell-rth2300b.htm . The direct link to the manual is https://www.honeywellstore.com/store/images/pdf/rth2300b1012-u-5-2-day-programmable-thermostat.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Not sure if your needing info on air conditioner or a thermostat but here is the link to honeywell. Just choose your product and model #. If it was the thermostat your replacing, look back at the old one and write down what wires went where. There should be letters/numbers by each connection. This will help with the new installation.

Install a digital Honeywell thermostat

What kind of system do you have (furnace with heatcool, heat pum or boiler )? Is there a themostat there now. How many wires does it have. If you have a furnace and you have heat&cooling install red wire to r on thermostat white wire to w and green wire to g. The g wire is usually for the fan. If there is a thermostat there now the old one should have the same letters on the back by where the wires hook up. The color of the might be diffrent than the ones i used for an idea.
