I did not choose exhange. It is an outlook account. I believe I selected other and put in my comcast email information.

The problem is that it will not send mail from my iphone. It says "Cannot Send Mail The sender address was invalid.

Can you post back and let us know step by step what you have done so far. I think I posted other info before. Also check your router if your behind one and ensure that the relevant ports are allowed ( port forwarded ).

If that does not work you can create a gmail account for free and get your comcast email to forward all incoming emails to the gmail one and just access the gmail account on your iphone.

is this an email account that you have configured for an exchange email account ?

Might be worth while checking with comcast to make sure all the settings are correct ie what port to use, that smtp server address etc.

can you walk me through how you are trying to set this up ie when you click on add mail account are you selecting exchange as the type of email account or what exactly ?

When you type in the smtp address in the email setup don't type in "smtp." just type in "comcast.net". This worked for me although not on a comcast.net account

I can receive emails but other people cannot receive emails from my phone

Hi William
Setting up an Email account on a Computer or iPhone is divided into 2 parts. The incoming mail server (POP) & the Outgoing (SMTP) server. You need to fill in these details correctly.
Send an Email to yourself to test this out.
That way it's quicker to test and you avoid annoying your friends while getting this Problem sorted out.
Your problem seems to be that the mail is not Sending correctly.
Which means that the details you are entering in the "Outgoing" boxes is incorrect.
Now, I've had this same problem on my iPhone on several occasions. The problem can be that you are using your own ISP details as you would on a fixed location computer but your outgoing email goes to your mobile carrier first. For example....
My email settings from the computer might be mail.iinet.net .au
Most of the time this works on the iPhone as well but, when I'm out in the country away from home it sometimes gets stuck in the "send" box. (It doesn't get sent)
So I open up my email settings in Settings / Mail,Contacts, Calendars. & Choose the Account Name I am using to send email.
Then look at the OUTGOING Mail Server / SMTP
and I see the PRIMARY server which is "mail.iinet.net.au" in my case. Underneath is another heading called.
OTHER SMTP SERVERS
in here I enter the mail server that the mobile phone company uses... mail.bigpond.com (my mobile carrier's email setting)
Enter details & turn this setting ON and if the first PRIMARY server can't be contacted then the secondary one can.
ALSO NOTE:
Some email accounts don't like SSL turned on.
I have SSL off & no user name or password in my settings, yours may be different depending on country & carrier, (I'm in Australia)
(Check your ISP's Email Setup requirements on their web site to get their preferred settings. Same for Mobile Phone Carrier.)
Sending via the Mobile carrier (who uses different settings) is what causes the problem. So...... by putting in this alternate route, it often solves the problem.
Now... it pays to note that sometimes these settings get so screwed up that just putting in the alternate settings fails to kick in. So...
I have found that, Deleting the Email account settings completely, does the trick....
Simply "Delete Email Account" and then re enter the full details again. (This has also worked on the computer as well)
Be sure to write down the old settings first or on the iPhone, press the top button and the bottom "thumb" button at the same time, will take a snapshot of the screen image and store it in the "Photos" App which allows you to refer to the settings later.
Hope this Helps

When my friend set up my computer he put his email in as back up if ever I had trouble he could access my computer. Now every time I send an email it reads from him & a lot of my friends won't even open it...

Every email message lists a sender name in the "From" field.
This name is defined by the value you entered in your email client when you first configured your account.
If you marry, divorce or need to change your name for any other reason, common email clients, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express and web-based services such as Windows Live Hotmail and Gmail, give you the ability to change the sender name to any alternate value with just a few clicks.

Click the "File" button near the top-left corner of the screen, select "Info" and click "Account Settings."
Select the name of your email account, and click the adjacent "Change" button.

Enter your preferred sender name in the "Your Name" field.

Click "Next," followed by "Finish," to confirm the change.

Microsoft Outlook Express 6

Click "Tools" in the top menu bar, and select "Accounts."

Select the "Mail" tab in the resulting dialog box.

Select the name of your email account, and click the adjacent "Properties" button.

Select the "General" tab on the screen that follows, and enter your preferred sender name in the "Name" field.

Click "OK," followed by "Close," to confirm your change.

Windows Live Hotmail

Log into your Windows Live Hotmail account.

Click the "Options" button near the top-right corner of the window, and select "More Options."

Click the "Account details" link located below the "Managing your account" heading.

Locate your name on the following screen, and click the adjacent "Change" link.

Enter your preferred sender name using the "First name" and "Last name" fields, and click "Save."

Gmail

Log into your Gmail account.

Click the "Settings" link located near the top-right corner of the window.

Click the "Accounts and Import" link on the screen that follows.

Look to the "Send mail as" section, locate your email address and click the adjacent "Edit info" link.

Enter your preferred sender name in the "Name" field, and click "Save Changes."
