Eureka Boss vacuum just quit

You have a clog in the hose (or somewhere) most likely the hose though. Find the clog -clean it out-let the machine cool down and you are back in business. This is really a good feature of the Eurekas because rather than continue to run and burn up the motor it shuts off -you clean it out and your vacuum is saved.

The automatic shut off is a protective feature and warning sign that some maintenance is needed. I let mine cool then tried it again to check suction. It had good suction on the floor and through the hose so there was no obstruction.

I removed the baseplate (3 simple phillips head screws - instructions are on the bottom of the vacuum for removing and replacing it.) The belt looked good and the beater bar just had minor strings wrapped around which I removed. I vacuumed it up (with another vacuum) - it was dusty but nothing obvious that would trigger the shut off.

Next I opened up the bag area - it was filthy and the bag was partially off. I removed the bag and found that on the bottom of the bag area is a "motor filter" which was also filthy. The motor filter is supposed to be checked and cleaned (or replaced) every 3 months. Well, like most of you, I didn't know that and have used it for a year or more without even a peek. It's easy to visually check this when you change the bag.

I took off the grid cover, took out the filter, shook and vacuumed it as the directions right next to it told me to do. It was still in good condition after I cleaned it so I replaced it. I vacuumed up the whole area, put in a new bag. Problem solved.

My Eureka Boss upright vacuum also just quit one day, after getting hot. I unscrewed the top burgundy colored plastic where the on/off switch is located (two "star" type screws, requiring special screwdriver bit). I carefully lifted up the now unscrewed plastic cover. I noticed that one of the two black wires connected to the underside of the on/off switch was broken, and the insulation partially melted. I cut the wire, and installed a new connector (from a hardware store or Radio Shack) that fit the on/off switch. Vacuum now works again. I cleaned motor filter, as per post above, and the hepa filter, and the bag compartment, using another vacuum (an old electrolux, that is much better built). I replaced bag. This vacuum now sucks for the right reason. I do have to say, tho, that Eureka could have spent an extra 25 cents on each vacuum by building the vacuum with thicker wire. Heck, the wire they used looks like it came from a set of mp3 player ear buds. No wonder they melted under 110 volts!

CAREFUL, EVERYONE! POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD if it's the faulty wiring like I found in mine. ANYONE KNOW A GOOD CLASS-ACTION LAWYER?
My problems started the same way .. on, off ... blah, blah, then the vacuum getting hot ... My vacuum is an upright Eureka Model 5893 bagless, only one year old.
Eventually, the handle would get hot, and finally it just quit. When handle was disassembled, the wires were melted and it was toast. Ordered a switch after talking to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there, but make sure you get the 3-prong switch (same switch used on Eureka's Genesis). It is Part #27871.

I did check the belt and it was frayed somewhat, i remember alot of heat from the exhaust as well. could have been over heating due to belt slippage. Anyway, it came back on after about thirty mimutes. works for now don't know how long.

I would like to ad that if after locating reset switch and pressing it if still no power then remove cover and do a resistance test if switch doesn't break the circuit then replace switch. however i would like to add your better off getting new machine if you have to replace the reset switch. ive tried and tried to get one for a customer and no luck discontinued. so hope this helps.

I have same problem and I read online that if a Eureka upright stops working it gets hot and needs to cool down, about 30 minutes. If that doesn't work it says there is a red reset switch near the motor. So I am in the process of trying to figure out how to get to the motor to find this reset switch. So far I'm just staring at the machine trying to figure this out, but maybe you're smarter than me on this.

My eureka boss bagless vacuum doesn't have suction. what is the cause of this problem?
