What raid is it in? For example if your server is in a raid 5 you needto take out hard drives enough to only have 2 in place and then put 2 more in to make a total of four and get it to rebuild it.

Please advise that you are taking it at your own risk and that you seek my solution as your last one. Thanks

Source: I been handling 2950, 1950, r710 dell poweredge servers for the last 4 years, i install 200 a month.

A disk read error has occurred when booting a Dell PowerEdge 2950. Passes all diagnostics. Will run chkdsk from CD. Raid battery was degraded at last reboot but all disks showed to be fine. Raid 1

what OS?
what disk?
no raid card stated, no array stated, no type of array stated.
One can put 100s of RAID cards in this server.
both raid cards or HBA cards,(forJBOD)
i can fix any server, but first need to know what is in the box first
you meant the boot disk has errors, right,? boot.
that would tell me the disk IS BAD.
but if and ARRAY , that means you must run SMART tests
on the disks, 1 by 1 to find the bad disk.
if smart shows its bad, or weak its for sure BAD.
on real servers. the server sends you email, (set up right)
telling you disk 3 in a RAID 6 is bad, replace it now.

are you running hardware or software raid, or HBA or
fake raid cards, (4 classes there.!)

the base system new has.
4 port SAS 5/i integrated SAS controller (no RAID_
and optional, from DELL , news.
Optional PERC 5/i integrated SAS/SATA daughtercard controller with 256MB cache,
PERC 4e/DC, PERC 5/e adapter

or any of 1000s of other aftermarket cards there.
I run LSI 9361s (with MSM appl loaded)
this card will tell you what disk failed every time no kidding.
so will the PERCs setup correctly
the PERCs and my LSI and my HP raids
all have installed monitors for the RAID ,a program that runs full time all the time, and reports errors , many ways,
did you load that first and use it? seems not.
as no mention of SMART at all.
good luck.
Im not sure the names on DELL , MSM like software.
ah its OSA
never run a PERC lacking this APP. or you can not keep the server on line,.

NO HARD DISK FOUND DELL POWERDGE 1600SC

Is the HD SAS/SCSI/SATA on a raid controller?

If so you need to enter the RAID config (not the bios, but there will be a RAID config option during the boot process CTRL+M I believe.. but it will say on screen.) Then you need to set up the raid config, then initialise, then the drive will be detected for loading the OS.

Either that or the drive(s) shafted.

What sort of disks are you using?

Confuguring raid5

Hi

You would need 4 Hard disk drives in total. you would need to create 2 RAID 0 (striping) and then Mirror them (RAID 1). to elaborate, HDD A&B will be at RAID 0 as well as HDD C&D. after, you would have to Mirror your two RAID 0. (raid 0+1 is also known as raid 5)

Hope this helps.

I have a Smart Array 431 RAID controller out of an old Compaq server. I cannot find any documentation on the card that describes the pin headers and their functions. There are 5 headers on the board: E1,...

Find below the controller components for Identification purpose.

2.PORT E2

The Port E1 and E2 connectors is made up of single mini SAS HD connector which can take two mini SAS Hard disk or single SAS Hard disk while the cache module connects to a capacitor pack and cache module connects to a battery
-SAS HD receptacle connector, which can
accept either two Mini
-SAS HD 4x plug connectors or a single Mini
-SAS HD 8

**The 2 GiB cache module connects to a capacitor pack. The 4 GiB cache module connects to a battery pack

I have hp proliant with raid 1+0 .I have 2 hard and usr in option

Sometimes shortened to RAID 10, RAID 1+0 is a particular combination of two different RAID levels: mirroring (RAID 1) and striping (RAID 0). The appeal of RAID 1+0 is simple: mirroring gives you the highest level of availability RAID offers, with the fastest rebuild times when a disk fails; while striping - using the proper chunk size - is the basis for high-performance I/O.

Constant beep on poweredge 840 appears to work alright

Hi

Besides standard beeps codes indicating Processor, CPU, Memory or Systemboard failures,
Dell PERC (PowerEdge Expandable Raid Controller) or SAS Controllers (Serial Attached SCSI) generate beeps to alert failures on the RAID sub-system.

From your description of the issues (when the beeps start), i suggest you check PERC or SAS setup. If you have Dell OpenManage Server Administrator installed, you can log-in and check for more information. Additionally, on the next reboot check the PERC/SAS/CERC boot up for any messages. You may also access the PERC (Ctrl+M), SAS (Ctrl+R) CERC (Ctrl+A) Management Menu for specific failures and attempt a rebuild (assuming you have a redundant RAID Volume).

You can also speak with Dell Support and raise a warranty call if the system has warranty.

Note: PowerEdge 840 would ship with PERC or SAS Controller. PowerEdge 700 will ship with PERC or CERC.
