I have a Magic Chef range which is setup for Natural Gas and I want to use LP.I have a Magic Chef range which is setup for Natural Gas and I want to use LP.
We have a Maytag gas range that has a self cleaning oven, it was only used for several years and then we moved to a rural area that only has propane and electicity. Now it is seven yrs. later and we just got propane piped into the house to get our range hooked up. The range has been sitting in storage all this time, so is there anything that we need to do to it besides converting it to propane? Do we need to get a professional to convert it and hook it up?
Please Help! I'm anxious to get it finally hooked up....I have missed my gas stove. To convert this range to LP, you do not need to replace the orifices. The range comes with universal (double coaxial) orifices. You need to convert the pressure regulator; the procedure depends on the range. Then screw down the burner orifice hoods down to the pins. Do not over-tighten or you wil risk damaging the orifice. Then adjust the burner air shutter. For the oven burner, look behind the burner cover. It's shown on as part 25 on the oven/base diagram here: https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model-number/MGR5750BDQ/3048/0124002.html . You can find the range bake and broiler burners shown on the gas controls diagram.
Most ranges can be converted with the orfices being changed.Newer ranges have the orfices under the top.Older ranges can be convetrted by drilling the orfices larger.(propane orfices are smaller than natural gas.Sears can sell you a conversion kit if you know the model and serial #.Most Gas companies will convert it for a fee.
you would have to find out from the manufacturers if there is a burner kit to convert from natural to propane... it usually involves replacing the gas jets...
