On most models it is the 2 & 6 wires inside the generator. They are blue and red & all you need is a 9volt battery. Be careful, this is electricity!

I have a Generac 5000 Watt Power Plus Mod-00413-0 Does this have an oil filter and if so wich one do i need ?!?

Regarding the advice about "Flashing" a generator.
Do you people even know what that means?

What you are doing is messing with the capacitor that is part of the voltage conversion. Likely you are burning any shorts out of the capacitor. Has noting to do with the fields or coils or rectifier.

So if you are having issues then test the capacitor and replace it.
Try your flashing and see if you don't fry the rectifier.

It amazes me that people will blindly follow something they don't understand "hoping" that something good will happen.

But if a new generator is what you want then give your old one away instead of trashing it.

I have a generac 50G. How do I flash the field so it will generate?

Hello,

This is the easiest way, get a hand held power drill and plug it into one of the 120 volt recepticals. Make sure all the cicut breakers are pushed in before you do this. OK here is the trick, with the generator running, pull the trigger on the drill and spin it hard BACKWARDS. You must keep the trigger pulled and DONT hangonto the chuck after you spin it......... It will just take off spinning. If it doesnt work at first do it again, if it does not work, make sure you are spinning it as fast as you can. If the drill motor does not just take off after three attemps, you might have a bad diode that needs to be replaced.

Hope this works, Let me know :)

Installed a generac 20kw about a year ago, ran fine untill 2 days ago. During a utility outage, generator ran for about 30 minutes and then stopped producing power while still running. All mains were still...

With the engine off, check the exciter brushes and slip rings which supply magnetic power for the alternator winding in the stator. Also, check the motor-to-alternator mechanical coupling. Check the breakers for tripping. To service beyond this point requires a schematic of the alternator, a voltmeter, plus knowledge of what the schematic is telling you. Good luck!

How do i flash my generac 5000 power plus generator

well I have a special flasher unit but I believe you can put 12 volts to the brushes while it's running. That should do it.

No power output from my generac 5000 power plus.

sounds like you need to "flash the field". This means you've lost you excitation voltage for the generator to produce electricity. In most cases you need to get a 9volt battery and connect it to 2 & 6 inside the generator. They are Blue & Red wires, but they are not the only blue & red ones there. The generator should be running and the battery should only be connected for about 5 seconds. This is very dangerous because of all the high voltage and democrats.
