How do i flash my generac 5000 generator i was told the reason it is not putting out power is because it has sat without running for to long and all i need to do is flash the coils?
I had the same problem. The engine was running fine but there was only about 1.2 volts coming out of the generator on each leg. I decided to try flashing the field first since it doesn't cost any money. I used a 12 volt dc car battery, and a extension cord. You do not use the green ground wire. you hookup the male end of the cord to the female receptical of the generator outlet. With the generator running you then hookup first the white wire to the battery, now with the black wire you connect it to the battery for about 5 seconds. when I did this my circuit breaker popped and so I reset the breaker and checked the voltage and it actually worked I now get 120 volts ac. It actually worked but be carefull and hope this helps.
This may or may not be true. normally, you would never have to flash the field of a gen. It starts on 'residual magnetism' More than likely, you have a bad voltage regulator.
If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/craig_3fa289bf857b1a3c
Well I have a special flasher unit but I believe you can put 12 volts to the brushes while it's running. That should do it.
Its the rotor ,the stater ,voltage regulateor or control board. i fix these everyday. it also just be the brushes.
