..well itz always better to hv a supervision of service center as they r sparsely available at the local market, we usually donot replace the system board as whole but try to repair using scraps n spares..

SOURCE: Won't start up; only beeps.
Well, appears that either the memory card or the Video graphics card is bad. When you hit the power button do any lights show up on the control panel?
How many beeps do you hear. Does it continue to beep or just once?
You can email me at dev one zero nine w at yahoo. I will be glad to put an end to your problem.
SOURCE: Hi, I turn on my t61p and it gives a long the two
AWARD BIOS beep codes
1 Long, then 2 Short Beeps: Video error
Explanation: The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen.
Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. It can also be a motherboard issue.
Do check your RAM(memory) too. If your RAM is overheating (ie. faulty) you can get this error too.
Hope it helps.

Four cycles of four short beepsand a blank screen.Problem:----> System board (security chip) For reseating instructions (for my T42p), I used: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-46513.html http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-46515 and a video, which reminded me that there was one more screw to remove(!):
Do you still have warranty?
Try pulling out memory sticks and putting them back in.. here is something I found. Might help.

1.Your first step is to look at the information about the meaning of
the beeping codes. Beep codes are important and useful tools when
troubleshooting booting issues. When you turn on your computer system, it is called POST
(Power On Self Test).
2.No beep is usually a power problem that can be related to the
power supply, motherboard or both. Always check your battery power before
thinking there is a bigger problem.
3.One beep is a normal POST. That means everything is fine.
Two, Three, or Four short beeps are normally about the memory of the machine.
If there is a problem with one of your memory chips you should get beeps of
different combinations in this area. If you get two or three short beeps, one
or both of your memory chips could be in trouble.
4.Five beeps point toward motherboard or CPU problems. Make sure
your memory and video card are seated properly. Try removing them and putting
them back in, only if you are comfortable with computers.
Six, seven and eight beeps.
Eight beeps indicate problems with your video card. Six or Seven are CPU, or a
bad chip on the motherboard.
Nine beeps mean the BIOS is bad. Replace the motherboard.
Ten beeps means the problem is in the CMOS. All chips need to be replaced.
5.Eleven beeps are related in the cache of the mother board and this
means that the motherboard needs replaced.
One long and three short beeps mean that it is related to a loose memory chip.
Try reseating it.
One long and eight short beeps means that the video cards needs reseated.
6.I hope that this list of beep codes will help settle the panic you feel when your computer is sick. If all fails, Then you inform me
