If you stick an audio CD in the drive will it play? If so then the OS can read the drive, if not the drive could be dirty or just defective. Also, Windows XP will not burn DVDs natively, I recommend downloading this software http://cdburnerxp.se/.

My cd writer is not working can nort burn the disk what should i do i have a dell d800

Your cdrom drive can read a data disc or play cd audio? Check if its CDR/CDRW not DVDR/DVDRW, buy a disk cleaner and play it on your cd/dvd drive. After that try to burn again.

Hi there, When I insert a dvd- or dvd+ disk to burn my video/image files with photofunstudio, it tells me that "the inserted disc is not supported". In what kind of dvd disks do I have to burn my...

Make sure that you have the burning program set to burn the images as a "data" disc. Try a regular cdr (not cdrw) first to see if that works. You only have to use a dvd if the size of the file exceeds 700mb.

Hope this helps. :)

Can I copy a CD R To aDVD R , I have still photos from recent wedding, burned to CDR,but will not play on DVD player on TV, can I copy this CDR to A DVDR disk

It's not enough to merely copy to a DVD. You need to create a Video CD or DVD video to make them playable on your DVD player. Nero and other video authoring software should have this option.

The DMG file type is primarily associated with 'Macintosh OS X' by Apple Inc.. On the Macintosh, these files are treated like a real disk. They can be created with Disk Copy, burnt to CD or mounted as a normal volume. The DMG file also comes in different formats: HFS, HFS+, UFS, ProDOS, Linux, and Fat32 and so may also require special mounting software to account for the format. IsoBuster can interpret these files directly as can other programs such as UltraISO. The program TransMac, by Acute Systems, can both open and create DMG files on a PC.

Vista Windows won't format DVD

CDs and DVDs don't need to be formatted, unless you're using a DVDRW (Rewritable) and want to erase what's on it. Regular CDs and DVDs are single-write onl, and don't need to be formatted before burning.

DVD burnne will not burn data files

This could be for numerous reasons

1. the disc is not compatable with your drive ie its a cheap branded one so get a decent branded spindle of discs ie TDK or tayo yuden or the likes

2. The disc is blank

3. Is this only with blank dvds ( dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw ) ?

4, can you play or read normal cd's just not dvd's ?

I had a similiar problem when my old dvd rom drive was getting old and sometimes it would work and others it wouldnt the only other thing I can think of is to ensure the chipset drivers ie the IDE / sata drivers are up to date and also are there any firmware updates for the dvd drive ?

Also ensure if there are any jumper pins ensure they are set correctly and that the data cable and power cables are seated firmly as per the other suggestion.

WIth the prices of dvd drives now it would be easier to buy a new one and replace it.

VGC-RB30 DVD/CDR DRIVE

You actually perhaps using a non blank disc at that time. Burners don't really accept non writeable Discs. Check your CD first before burning. If you are using a rewriteable disc (CD-rw) that has files, it can burn and files will be overwritten but if you're just using a CD-r with files in it, the burner will eject and will tell you to insert a blank disc.

Philips DVD+RW SDVD8820 does not recognise burned CD or DVDs

it could be upper and lower filters in registry and system files, use a removal tool called filtercheck 4.6 in CDR-zone.com (goto the forums and search for filtercheck)
after you downoad, run it, click yes to all filters found to remove. close program.

reinstall your preferred burning app (1 prog installed at a time and test burn)
this is to replace the filter entry that was corrupt
