Keeps rebooting,and goes into a memory dump,get message that the computer has recovered from an unexpected shutdown

See if the Check disk utility will solve your problem. To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

Sometimes this can be caused with memory problems Reseat the memory by switching off the G5 then take out the memory and replace it back. It could be that it is slightly loose. Hope this helps.

I assume 'powering up' as the reboot of your OS (Windows) while your are working. The reason could either be found out from 'system events' or configuring 'complete memory dump'. Go to my computer properties and click on advanced tab. You'll find the option to set the 'memory dump'. Install the memory dump analysis tool from MS and analyse the dum when it goes down next time. It will capture which driver is causing the issue.

That is an infections that doing that to your computer. You can stop the shutdown by running this command before the countdown reaches zero. Type this command from the Start->Run box:

shutdown -a

This should kill the countdown. However, you will have to get that infection removed from your computer.

Likely the hard drive's master boot record has become corrupted during the unexpected shutdown. You need to boot with your windows xp cd, select R on the first screen for the repair console and run a chkdsk /f to fix the drive. This works most of the time.

Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for running Windows XP if this is an upgrade - I had a computer that technically met the requirements, but boy did it run slow after I upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP. If your hard drive contains no programs, information that you can live without, then you can completely reformat the hard drive and start over from scratch. If it does contain important programs, burn them to CD or DVD - and make sure that your computer can read the files after you are done burning - and then reformat your hard drive.
