Lens Error Battery is fully charged but when I start the camera the lens will not come out, it displays "lens error" and shuts down immediately, in less than 30 seconds.

  • Anonymous Apr 09, 2009

Solved by Rob's (Robmcd27) recommendation below (I did it and it worked.

    thanks Rob):

The problem your having is that sand and/or dirt gets in the lens mechanism of the camera. When the little cog inside gets sand or dirt in it, it prevents it from moving. It is what causes 95 percent of all lens errors. This is how you can fix it.
Take an air compressor (or borrow a friends) and put the nozzle up to the space in between the lens and and the camera. Blow it out real good. It may take a couple of tries, but it should free it up.

I solved the problem with a recommendation Rob posted here on FixYa. Some air pressure blown around the lens and it worked. Thanks, Rob. You're my hero! I almost sent the camera in for repair.

Sanyo digital camera showing lens error 1114 or 112

Hi.

If your Sanyo digital camera is not starting and you get lens error 112 or lens error 1114 prompted on display, that means that the lens is getting stuck, and cannot extend or retract fully. The controller board detects the error on startup, and shuts down after displaying the error message.
This errors usually happen because of dirt, or because the lens mechanis mis damaged in consequence of a shock.

If lens does not retract, try helping the lens back, without putting too much strenght, while you turn off the camera at he same time.
If the lens does not extend, try tapping softly the back of the camera to help lens out, while you turn off the camera at he same time.
If the camera had been exposed to sand or dust, try blowing canned air on the lens.

If this does not work, the lens assembly must be taken apart completely and re-assembed, and for that you need a camera repair shop.

Also call the number listed on the owners manual to get support from the manufacturer.

I just got a canon powershot sd 1400 is for christmas and i charged the batttery and then put it in my camera and automatically came up was lens error automatically shutting down

Make sure that the battery is charged fully. It may not have enough power to operate the lens on startup. If the battery is charged fully, and it keeps doing this, take back the camera tomorrow to the store that you bought it from.
For others reading this, that did NOT just receive a brand new camera that you can take back to the store. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try. (jillmur3, don't try these. take yours back to the store)

I have a Canon PowerShot SD790 IS. The camera turns on, the lens comes out and that's it. Then it shuts down and the code E16 shows up. Can't seem to find anything on that code that tells me what the...

The error message indicates an error that involves the lens unit or lens cover.
This error may appear where the lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting such as, for example, when pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera. The error may also be displayed if the lens unit/camera has been subjected to an external shock, or if liquid, sand or dirt enters the camera.
This issue may also happens if the Battery is not fully charged.

In this case, charge the battery completely then try to turn on the camera. Furthermore, try resetting the Camera to the original factory settings. You may also try hitting the lens gently against your palm after turning it ON.

If the issue persists then service is required.
