I can't find a way to safely disconnect my Sansa from the computer. According to the manual, it should have a little icon on the taskbar, but it doesn't. Is there any way I can tell it to put the icon on the taskbar? Or is there anywhere else I can tell it to safely disconnect?
So far my Sansa is working great, but I'm worried that this will cause problems in the future.
Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. My problem is that there isn't any icon for the device on the taskbar. Is there any way I can get it to show one?Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. My problem is that there isn't any icon for the device on the taskbar. Is there any way I can get it to show one?

Well try it charging if does not then connect it with you computer or laptop and if computer does recieve the noticfication that mp3 player is connected then remove it safely do not disconnet wire from the player but first from computer or laptop then try it if gets on.... if doesn't without connected to computer the reconnect with computer and format your player by right clicking on the mp3 drive and chosing format button . Let me tell that there is not much possibilty that it would be working again usually Directly disconnecting gives the memory **** to mp3 player as its not furter connected to stable power supply which would explain that it won't be working or any repaires would help then
The Sansa c140 can be operated in MSC and MTP mode for transferring and deleting music files.
See also setting USB mode for autodetect or MSC mode on page 16 of the manual: link to the Sansa c100 series manual.
For deleting files a connection to a computer has to be made in either MSC or MTP mode, see page 10 of the manual.
MSC mode means that a computer will see the player as a removable disk when connected.
It's like exploring the computer detecting the player as an external memory, showing up as a drive letter with about 1 GB of memory. Before disconnecting the player, always safely remove hardware, the icon in the bottom taskbar on the right.
MTP mode means that a computer has software installed like Windows Media Player 10 and in this software, when started, the player is being recognized as Sansa c140. Before disconnecting the player, wait for the message that it is allowed to disconnect the device.
important
Take notice of the player's connection mode, see page 15 (=13 of the manual).
Install and update Windows Media Player 11 or other supporting media software on the computer, when transferring in MTP mode.
Always go through the safely remove hardware routine (icon in the right bottom corner of the screen) before disconnecting the player in MSC mode.
Updating the Sansa Fuze's firmware, getting user manual and media

If it is flashing constantly, go into Start --> Control Panel --> Printers/Other Hardware --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager --> and uninstall either the Sansa or the MTP device. Disconnect the Sansa from the computer, and reinstall the software that came with the mp3 player.
The file format of the songs may be incorrect, which causes problems. Make sure the songs are not iTunes/AAC format. Delete all osngs and then retry if you are certain that the files are in the right format.

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.
Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer.Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced. Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website. Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything. Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp If these fail, then: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version). You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer. -Tha Mp3 Doctor
Try going to the actual file the music is in on your computer, then right click Send To sansa 250. If that doesn't work look on the options menu for USB mode and change it, that works on my 280.
What you need to do is first make sure that you are safely disconnecting your sansa clip and not just taking it off the computer. Second you may have a virus in your sansa clip I would prefer you call Technical Support for Sansa clips, the number is 1-866-726-3475, they are open 4am-10pm PST or 7am-1am EST. Hope this helps
remove the four screws from the back, remove battery and and put it back in this clears problem. Problem comes from disconnecting MP3 player incorrectly. Make sure your safe to remove hard wear is active
It is not designed to show up as a Removable Disk in MTP mode, therefore it wont show up in the Safely Disconnect Menu.
If you are using Windows Media Player to transfer, as soon as the SYNC is complete, it says "ok to disconnect". You can disconnect without any problems.
If you are using Rhapsody, or the Best Buy Digital Music Store, you can right click on the device in the Sources Menu and select Disconnect.
Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. My problem is that there isn't any icon for the device on the taskbar. Is there any way I can get it to show one?
