I only get sound out of 2 front speakers with 5.1.

I hooked up a Sony 5.1 surround sound system to a new dvd player and tv. I only get sound out of the 2 front speakers and can barely hear the dialogue even though the back ground music is loud and clear. I've never had a surround sound system so I don't know if the lack of dialogue is because the center and rear speakers aren't working. The sub woofer works fine.

I just moved and can't find the manual. The receiver is my girl friend's and she doesn't know anything about settings.

Have lenoxx ht 500 surround sound speakers & dvd but dvd is broken, need to purchase another dvd player but can't source lenoxx model, what other models can i connect surround sound to? or whe

If your surround sound receiver unit has rca audio inputs(red/white), you can hook up any brand of DVD player that has rca outputs. You would hook the yellow output from DVD player to yellow input on TV. Hook red/white output from DVD player to red/white input on surround receiver. Hope this helps.

Surround sound for DVDs.

If your DVD disc supports it, you will have to enable surround sound from the DVD, as well as the speakers.

I HAVE A SONY 5 DISC DVD SURROUND SOUND THEATER SYSTEM. I'M TRYING TO CONNECT IT TO MY TV BUT I DON'T GET ANY SOUND BUT GREAT PICTURE.

Not really enough info here to help much yet.

Helpful info would be:

1.Are you hooking up coax or optical surround from the DVD and have you set the amp to look at the correct type of input?
2. I could be much more specific with help if knew the model number of the surround system and DVD changer.

Sony Model DAV ? SB 500W Home Theatre System

Please check at rear of TV for Digital Optical IN port as home theater should have optical out port at rear. If you got any optical in port in TV, just connect optical wire between TV and home theater.

2nd option is check Line Out pins at rear of home theater system, if found, hook red-white RCA cable there and put it to same input in TV where you hooked Video (composite or component) cable.

Let me know the results to help you more.

Can't get the surround sound to play the rear speakers and small front speaker

Sounds like it's just in 2 channel stereo mode, only 2 speakers working out of 5 and a sub, look for a selector switch for switching to 5.1 surround, as far as the no video problem try replacing the cable for the video connection.

Help getting sound from New Sony LCD Television Model XV HTD520 DVD Player with Surround Sound S HTD520

While I could not find it in the manual, I found that you must
go to the menu, open Sound Options and set Speakers to "Fixed".

Note: If you turn off the Surround Sound or DVD player combination you must then go back to the menu and turn the speakers back to Televsion.

Surround sound hookup question?

It looks like all you'll need to do is hook up audio out from DirecTV to audio in on the surround sound system. Sony has an interesting hookup recommendation guide on the product support site:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-home.pl?mdl=DAVC700&LOC=3

That should give you the connection options. The short answer, though, is to connect the best audio out from DirecTV to an audio in on the surround sound and then choose that option in the surround sound system when you want to watch TV.
