Not able to connect to router

When I try to connect my sony vaio cs11s to the wireless network at home it says:'isn't able to connect to wireless network because there was a time out.' I've checked the router's settings and compared them to my sony vaio's settings, and i haven't noticed any differences. The strange thing is that my pc finds the router and asks to make a connection, but whenever i try to, it says there was a time out...

yes it's secured with a key, of wich i'm sure that i've entered it correct. But when i enter the key it says that it's connecting and after a while it says that there was a time out. i also checked the frequency of the router and my laptop and its the same. rebooting the router doesn't help either

When i first bought this laptop, i had the same problem. a technician came over, he tried to find the problem but couldn't find it immediately so he reset the router and started to restore all settings, equal to my laptop, and then he noticed that there was a slight difference. my laptop has both 802.11g/802.11n connection, and so does my router, but my brothers laptop only has the 'g', so the technician enabled both on the routers settings. now since my laptops system crashed, the same problem returned but since my routers settings didn't change, i didn't see where the problem was.
in the meanwhile i already have connection with my router. i think this time the problem was because i had already made 2 wlan profiles myself because it didn't make connection itself (saying there was a timeout...). but when i deleted both profiles, it said there was a connection found and it asked to make a new profile.
So actually my original problem is solved :), but now the connection speed is only the half of what it used to be when the technician enabled the connection. first i had 78Mbps, now it's only 36Mbps and sometimes merely 18Mbps!

Try updating your wireles card driver. Or, when was the last time it worked.? if Updating your drivers don't work, see if you can restore windows to a previous date that your computer worked. Just make sure to back up your system epecially if you have saved any files between then, and now

Let me know how that works

Where is the wireless network switch on my sony vaio fxa49 noteook

Based upon this spec sheet, your all-in-one is one short. It does not come with built-in wireless networking. Thar may explain the lack of buttonology for it. There is an OPTIONAL wireless LAN card than can be purchased and installed. See spec sheet below.

Hi,

If your kids laptops are getting good signal strength then, its the problem with your laptop. You nmay have to upgrade your wireless adapter to N standard. The one which you have might be a b/g standard adapter. Check with your sony to upgrade the wireless adapter.

Thanks & Regards,
Prema.

Sony Vaio laptop unable to detect wireless access point

CompuLayne: Hello bluebells953

Netgear is quite tricky as is with all other routers, but I don't think the router is your problem. Try to do the following.

1) Turn off Vaio laptop
2) unplug router
3) unplug modem
4) plug back in modem - wait for it to boot up
5) plug back in router - wait for it to boot up
6) turn back on the Vaio - log in and see if it sees the SID. If it isn't broadcasting, you might have to enter it in manually and select connect to non broadcasting network

Wireless network connection

you may need to run the network wizard, as your sony may not be set up as using a gateway type connection and may be instructing other pcs to connect via itself and not on the network.
