My Dell Photo 964 All-In-One won't receive faxes, but can send them just fine. All other features are alright. Spoke to Vonage (our phone service) for 2 hours troubleshooting and sending test faxes, and it was determined that it is an issue with the machine, and not the service. Dell website is not helping, nor is the User's Manual. At first, the machine would recognize that a fax was coming through, but wouldn't receive it, and would also beep for no reason at times. I checked all settings (manual v. auto-answer, etc.), and had people send test faxes, even re-installed the printer - nothing worked. Now it doesn't even beep when something is being attempted; I only know because the businesses will call and ask whether we received anything. The answer is always "no." I could understand if it was 5 years old or something, but it's only 2 years old. It shouldn't be replacement time yet. I want to try everything before we give up and get a new one. Is this a common issue with this model, i.e. is it readily fixable? I appreciate any information!

I had the same problem, however I am also using VoIP which I don't think it matters. Solution: First, be sure you are using a 4-wire telephone cord (has the red, black, green & white wires on the end of the jack). Then you will need to add a DSL filter to the phone line between the wall jack and the fax machine. In my case, I plugged the filter in the VoIP box and plugged one end of my fax line into one end of the filter and the other end into the fax machine - fax slot. if you have a filter with multiple slots, be sure to plug it in the telephone line slot. As soon as I completed the process and tested the fax line it connected and worked just fine. I hope this helps.

First check a couple of obvious things:
Sometimes the presence or absence of a (DSL) filter on the line can affect fax reception.
Also check to make sure you have not enabled Fax Blocking.

Otherwise, I can only offer some information HP provides for support of VoIP fax setups, available by clicking here., and hardware setup options available here. Whether it is even remotely useful in your situation you'll have to judge.
