My friend has a HP Presario V6000, just randomly the other day the screen went blank and now whenever it is powered up there is no screen it is just blank, also the laptop doesn't make a beep when it powers up like it used to, its really quiet.. the fan is also extremely quiet, although it would seem the fan is still working. Bit stuck on what needs replacing?

Your symptoms sound like a known issue with the dv6000 series of HP laptops. Rather than go into a lot of detail here, let me just refer you to the HP web page about the problem. If it fits your situation, call HP at the special number shown on the page. They've been replacing motherboards even for units more than a year old. My son just got his back yesterday, and so far so good. I hope this helps.

Check your power management settings. Reset to suit your usage. This should fix it.
