Here is how to reset your Nintendo Wii:

1. First, the easy way. A soft reset of the Ninetendo Wii. If you Nintendo Wii has just started acting up and there is no reason to perform a hard reset then follow this instruction. Simply press the reset button and hold down for 2 seconds on your Nintendo Wii Console.

2. Now, for the more advanced hard reset. Interestingly, the Nintendo Wii has NO hard reset facility to be accessed through the machine or via buttons. The ONLY way to hard reset your Nintendo Wii is to UNPLUG it for 5 minutes. Once it is unplugged it resets itself and your badly behaving Nintendo Wii should be restored.

Note: By hard resetting the Nintendo Wii, it will not delete any information on the SD Card that is used for storage. If you wish to delete this data, stick it into a computer with a multi-media card device or a digital camera and reformat it.

Wii nintendo bought used how do i reset it

Method One: The Soft Reset The soft reset is the easiest way to reset the Wii, and the least intrusive. There are two ways to perform the soft reset, either using the Wii remote or the button on the console.
To reset the Wii using the Wii remote, begin by pressing the home button (the small button with a house on it). This will bring up a menu screen. Next, move the cursor to the button labeled "Reset" on the screen. Press the "A" button on the remote to select the reset option. This will reset the system.
If the Wii remote is not responding, users can also reset the Wii using the button on the main console. First, locate the button labeled "Reset"--it's on the front of the console, beneath the "Power" button. Press and hold the "Reset" button for two seconds, then release the button. This should reset the system. Users should remember that resetting the Wii will shut down any running programs immediately and destroy any unsaved data, so only reset the Wii if it is causing problems. However, resetting the Wii will not alter any information stored on SD cards.
Method Two: The Hard Reset If the soft reset doesn't fix the Wii, users can also perform what's known as a "hard reset." A hard reset involves disconnecting the Wii's power supply and must be done manually--there are no pre-programmed buttons on the Wii that will perform the hard reset.
To begin the hard reset, find the "Reset" button on the front of the console. Press it for two seconds, then release (this performs a soft reset on the device). Next, press and hold the "Power" button. Continue holding this button until the light in the button switches from green to red--this means that the Wii console has shut down. Now, unplug the AC power adapter cord from the wall outlet or surge protector as well as from the console itself. Allow the Wii to remain like this for five minutes.
Once five minutes have passed, plug the AC power adapter cord back into the console, then connect the other end of the cord to an AC outlet. Press the "Power" button to turn the Wii on. The system should now be running smoothly.
Method Three: Reset Factory Controls Sometimes, Wii users might want to return the system to its original, factory-shipped status and remove any personal data. Nintendo especially recommends doing this before selling or gifting a used Wii to someone else. To perform a factory reset, also known as formatting the system memory, go to the Wii menu and select the "Wii" button, then select "Wii settings." Click on the blue arrow on the right-hand side--this will bring users to a page called "Wii System Settings 3." Select the option labeled "Format Wii System Memory," entering the parental controls PIN if requested. Finally, select "Format" to complete the factory reset. This will remove all hard-drive data from the Wii, and such data cannot be recovered, so users should only perform a factory reset if they're sure they want to do so.

Master key for parental control

  1. Navigate to the Wii Menu by pressing the HOME button on a Wii Remote and selecting "Wii Menu."
  2. Look at the date and time displayed on the Wii Menu and ensure they are correct. If incorrect, they will need to be changed in order for you to complete the PIN reset process. You will not be able to reset the PIN until the date is correct.
  3. Select the Wii Options icon in the lower-left corner of the Wii Channel Menu.
  4. Select "Wii Settings."
  5. Click on the blue arrow to reach the Wii System Settings 2 menu options.
  6. Select "Parental Controls," then "Yes."
  7. Enter your PIN or select "I forgot."
  8. Answer your secret question or tap "I forgot."
    • If you know the answer to your secret question, enter it to unlock parental controls. The system will go to the change parental controls screen and you will be able to change your PIN.
      • Be sure to enter the secret question exactly as you originally typed it, as the answer is case sensitive.
    • If you don't know the answer to your secret question, tap "I forgot."
  9. A screen will appear showing you a request code.
  10. With that request code, you will need to do a request that involves charging US$0.50 from a credit card, to confirm that you're an adult. Or should your kids try to circumvent your parental code, it will show up on your credit card bill.

My wii was working a few days ago then I tried to turn it on today and it will not come on. I tried plugging it in to different outlets but it still will not come on. No lights will come on either.

hello,
One of two common possible problems. Either 1) Your AC adapter needs to be reset or 2) Your AC Adapter is bad.

Most power issues with the Wii can be fixed by resetting the AC adapter. You can easily reset the AC adapter by following these steps:
Unplug the Wii AC adapter at both ends (from the back of the Wii system and from the wall outlet or power strip).

The AC adapter must remain unplugged at both ends for a full 2 minutes.

After you've waited 2 minutes, plug the AC adapter into the Wii system and directly into a wall outlet, not a surge protector or power strip. If the power light comes on and stays on, then it appears resetting the AC Adapter worked.

Try to find someone with a Wii.. not that hard everyone has one. See if they will let you use the power cord.
test the cord and if that doesn't you know its inside the Wii.
Then, their are fuses inside the console one of them my have blown. You need a special screw driver.
Hope this will help..
