Our GE top loading washer will not drain the water out, it just hums. Our washer is about 10 years old so maybe we just need to replace it but hope not. Thanks for any suggestions/solutions. Sherry

I suspect the V belt is worn out try taking the side cover off you would have to tilt the machine another helper maybe needed make sure you drain the remaining water out and unplugged the cord safety first

sounds like the agitator is bad not hard to replace look up on internet agitator replacement for that model

Water gets drained when it passes the washing cycle on the knob ? do you hear the motor humming ? like it wants to start? if no sound from motor then check the sensor switch located under the top of washer where door closes, it could be loose or defective, if you hear sound coming from motor , check the belt ,if belt OK, then MOTOR need to be replace, hope this info helps , AJ

replace the water inlet valve it is seeping water through the valve even though the cycle has finished

you both need to have the switch replaced or you can open top of washer and combine the lid switches wires together as a bypass and electrical tape

the lid switches are put in the washers to keep kids from opening the washer machine this is automatic shut down

if the unit is at least 4 or 5 years old, most likely the pump is clogged with the same hair.....that clogs vacuums. you probably can fix it yourself provided you can get to the pump without too much trouble. i'm not familiar with all the brands designs. maybe someone else on this sight can help. if this is not the problem than most likely some of the timers points are burned. if the unit is more than 10 years old and/or the unit has been used unusually alot there is the possibility that the transmission has problems, but that is pretty unlikely. hope this helps.

the water must drain out of the tank b4 it can spin make sure the pump is working ok
