Somehow did the little freewheel lever get pulled in the rear of the tractor to disengage transmission?..usually out is disengage and in is engaged. look around the back panel behind the rear axle for a small lever you can pull or push in.

SOURCE: Craftsman 42" mower deck won't disengage

Try pulling on the cable coming down to deck. This cable might be your problem. Also check that the spring on the end of this cable is present and functional.

SOURCE: Craftsman lawn tractor mower,

The belt is probably slipping because it is not tight enough. look by the belt, inside there is a little spring, you may half to tighten it.

SOURCE: Loss of drive in a Craftsman Lawn tractor

I also have a Craftsman tractor with the same problem. Sears repairman said it needed a new transmission and it would cost $1,400 to install. A new one is about $1,000. Anyway, if you remove the battery and the battery tray under the seat it will expose the transmission fill hole (hex). I opened the top and it looked empty. I had a bottle of 90 weight gear oil in my shop and filled the transmission to the top. I have not had any problems with it since. $4.00 bottle of oil verses a new tractor is worth a try.

Craftsman LT2000 Does not move (wheels do not move). blade engages and works finr

I would lower the deck to the lowes setting and look between the frame and the deck toward rear wheels and check the drive belt it sounds like it is slipping or busted.

Yt 3000 42" will not move forward or backward

Your drive belt might be off or broken (upper one) not the belt that controls the blades. There's a rod at the rear of the mower that also controls the trans-axle, if it's pulled out, the transmission is disengaged. To purge air out of the system, you pull the rod out, keep it in the out position with a pin and move the motion lever to go forward and return it to neutral several times, then do the same thing to the reverse direction. Then release the rod and return it to the very most inner position. GOOD LUCK, hope it's not a bad transaxle.

Craftsman lawn tractor will not engage in forward drive why

Check to see if brake lever is stuck on trans, keeping the brakes locked. should not be any squalling noises. Also make sure belt is routed right. and all idlers spin free.

Lawn tractor forward movement problem

Check the adjustment from the lever to the transaxle, if the linkage is ok the transaxle may be suffering from age and has leaking internal seals.

I have a Craftsman lawn tractor 21.5hp (hydro stat. trans.) I've noticied a small loss of power over a few yrs. Now I have no forward gear at all, I still have reverse, fluid level is up no sign of loose...

If you had included model no. I could have been more help but you probably will have to replace drive plate and or more in transmission. If you go to searspartsdirect.com and in model number type in, hopefully you will get parts breakdown of the transmission showing parts.

Craftsman lawn tractor model 917.270821 ( Auto trans)

Check the fluid level in the transmission. If the fluid level is low, the trans will act as if it's slipping.

Trans dose not work since i replaced rear tire on lt 1000 tractor

Similar thing happened to me . There is a half moon "key" that slides into a groove in the axle. Sounds like that fell out when you took off the wheel. Look around where you took the wheel off to see if you can find it. If not they're not very expensive at a repair shop. I did not know this & I took in in to the shop. Luckily they only charged me for the part.
