For any new hard disk first you have to create a partition table. Usually this is done when installing the OS. eg: for win98 you have to first create the partition in dos, format it, then run win98 setup. Now in WinXP this can be done when installing the OS. Similarly you may have to create the partition before runing UNIX setup. I Dont know the installation for UNIX. Usually the hard disk manufacturer supplies with some utility to do the partition. Like Disk Manager from Seagate.

Operating system not found

Hello,

I recommend going into your BIOS and making sure your system is detecting the hard drive(s). If not, recheck your cable connection at the drive and the board. If it is detecting the drive, make sure it is set to be one of the boot drives(I would make it 2nd to the CD-ROM) and reboot your server. If you get the same error, you will need to reinstall the os.

"Harddisk not found" error during

If the computer is telling you that the hard disk is not found, then either it is not hooked up correctly, is set to "disabled" in the BIOS setup, or the hard drive is bad.
Check those things in that order.

Motherboard Problem

Good day,
'

There are several component we need to consider in order for us to give you a more appropriate solution to your dilemma.

1. There are pin configuration at the back of your hard drive which can be switched from one combination to another. These pins is for boot sequencing. Try switching your hard drive pin configuration from master or slave to auto detect or IDE detect.
2. IDE cable must be inserted correctly. IDE cables have red lining on one side which indicates the proper insertion. Red Lining must be facing the red wire from the power supply cord. Try looking a closer look.

However, we need to ask you a few questions to give you a more direct answer.
Kindly provide the following.
1. Is you hard drive an IDE type it SATA.
2. Motherboard specs.
3. Memory allotted.

Should you have any questions, feel free to approach us.

1 logical harddisk degraded, RAID Poweredge

Revert back to original configuration of hdd in your RAID setup. Boot to SCIS BIOS and double check functionality of hard drives. The error is probably telling you that Disk1 is degraded because disk 0 is failing and you removed the wrong hard drive.

My Hp Pavillion laptop dv2214tu doesnot boot beyond the HP INVENT logo page. I tried performing the Primary Hard Disk check as stated on the HP Support site but its not happening.I also reseated the RAM...

Unscrew your Laptop HardDrive bay and remove your harddisk first, then try to boot your system wthout the Harddisk inside. If it Boots past the HP Invent Logo Page, then your harddisk is the one that is faulty, if still doesnt, get another good, working RAM, apart from the one in your system, and use it to test your laptop...making sure that the harddisk is still not inside...then if it boots insert your Harddisk back with the new RAM, and restart your system.
If in the first case it boots (i.e wihout the harddisk inside)...then it means your harddrive is faulty, just retrieve your file on it and get a new one.
If in the second case it works (i.e with a new external RAM) then just change your RAM instead.

Aspire 5100 how do i run recovery cd's. notebook won't boot up

hi LWeller1l what you computer is trying to do is boot from a network and it's not picking one up so it gives you an error message, to check if it's just this....... go into your bios and check the boot order it should have ......cd/rom or dvd/rom drive as first boot option then the .........hd meaning harddisk then the pxe boot, if they in this in this order and the pxe option is not above the harddisk in the order you may have harddisk problem. when the computer boots it uses this order to start, so in this order it checks the cd/rom or dvd/rom for a bootable disk, if none is in there it then tries to boot off the harddisk, if this fails then look to the pxe boot option which is network boot option off a server,........another thing is you if you don't have server you can disable the pxe boot option completly in here........so if they are in this order in the bios then you may have to re-install the operating system or the disk may be corrupted or failed.
